Default 13.2... Help me shave off 2 tenths!

My last trip to the drag strip got me the best of 13.2 @ 101

Bandimere Speedway (5800 feet)

60' 1.757
330 5.372
1/8 8.399@81.76
1000 11.005
1/4 13.234@101.07

Mods:
Cobb AP stage 2 93 HWG, Buschur 3" TBE, Injen CAI

Since we're up at 5800 feet, we're slower than you sea level folks.

My goal is to break in the 12's with the stock turbo. No STI has done it yet and I'd like to be the first.

What other things can I do?

Weight removal consist of the spare tire and jack but I was thinking about removing the passenger seat. I did remove the wing/trunk in favor for a CF trunk (33lbs saved). Lighter SSR Whees and tires. What else???

No I have seena number of people with Accessport stage 2 run in the mid 12's, one as low as a 12.5 so its definatly possible with the stock turbo!

Nobody in Colorado I have seen or heard of has hit 12's with the stock turbo.

With a larger turbo yes, Stock turbo no.

PLEASE REMEMBER we are at 5800 feet. Most NA cars run a second slower up here in denver. Turbo's only lose about .5

Here's our current list of the fastest Subaru's
http://quartermile.scoobytech.net/
Notice not one STI running a stock turbo is in the 12's.

Weight savings, work on the launch (better clutch), some sort of water injection, and I bet you'd even get a nice gain from a custom tune instead of running the base AP program.

Well, 2 tenths would get you a 13.03 so you really need 3 tenths for 12's. It ain't gonna happen up here at 5800ft . I wish I would of tried mine at the track with the stocker and more boost but I went ahead and threw on the 18G before the season started last year.

Here's my dyno stock vs MBC (23psi tapering to 12psi @ redline), Helix D/P, Perrin Pulley and K&N drop-in:

As you can see I gained a butt load of torque due to the 23psi but because the turbo is so small and really struggling up here it just runs out of breath and tapers fast to only 12psi @ redline. The dyno shows that I really didn't gain any top end (5k-7K) and that's where the car normally is at the drag strip.

Anything is possible though, good luck man.

You could flat-shift 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4. 4-5 gives me trouble, but the others seem OK (equips flame suit). You should be able to knock off at least a tenth by doing that.

i tried flat shifting last week, my clutch was not happy with me at all

I cant ever seem to get a good launch AND hit all the gears in one run, its always something that slows me down.

I'm not trying to flame here at all. I made my best pass on Friday night, 13.6 @100mph with a 1.8 r/t. My 2005 STi is stock except for a titanium cat back, so I'm essentially stock. I ran with no weight reductions. I had the seats, spare tire, jack, floormats, etc. I was on about 1/4 tank a gas and a full stock intercooler sprayer bottle. The track I was at is 300 feet above sea level. I'm trying accomplish two things by running my stock STi, get base numbers and work on launching/shifting. This way I can see improvements when I do future mods.

Do you have numbers for your car before modding it?

remove the doors, that'll save a couple hundred pounds. and its a free mod.

or at least remove the electric motors and guts for the rear doors;
replace the windows with lexan,
remove the front bumper;
remove the rear seat and other passenger seat
remove the airbags.
remove the internal decorative linings and sound dampening.
get rid of the air conditioner system and the radio, floormats.
remove the hood and trunk.
Chop the top off.
remove all the extra stiffening members that were added to make the impreza stiff enough for rally racing.

Oh its ON now! I wonder if I'm running the same boost and have similar curvers as Steves, if I should be shifting at 5k?

My stock time was 13.7@98. My GF ran a 13.6 (she weighs 100lbs less).

silverbetty-
A 13.6 time at sea level equates to a low 14 time. Most stock STI's here in Denver are running high 13's to low 14's.

Scuba made a pass here at 13.4 stock which I'm still trying to figure out how he did that!

Na, that would be too easy.

Has to be done on turbo alone. But an IC nitrous cooler would be okay... I have a complete dry nitrous kit too! Hmmm...
