Default RE: Halfway through Breakin...

It's official. The SCCA BOD approved the move from T-1 to T-2 at the meeting on 12/18. The STi should be very competitive in this class. The EVO and M3 were also moved to T-2. The WRX was moved to the new T-3 regional only class along with the RX-8.

Also big news: the 2005 GCR is ONLINE - finally!

Default 05 stereo removal

Heya, I'm a total autocross noob. I plan on getting into it soon.

What is T-1 and T-2?

I have a 05 STi that I am about to put a Cobb TBE and AccessPort stage2 reflash on. I've been reading through the 2005SoloRules.pdf and I couldn't figure out what class my car would have to be in. I'm assuming the worst: totally unlimited modification class (whatever it's called). Does anyone know which class I'd be in with those mods?

Ahh.. I think I figured it out.. SM, street modified right? How many people actually run that class? I'm sure it depends on the region. I'm in south carolina.

I could care less about how badly I get beaten. I just want to go and have fun. After I've raced the 'big boys' I'll decide if I'm really bummed about being in last place and think about reflashing back to stock.

But wait.. if nobody else is running SM will I get to just run against myself? lol.

Default RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Breaking news ! Best car in the

T-1 and T-2 are club racing classes (road racing wheel to wheel) not used in autocross.
In autocross(scca calls it solo 2) the STi is classed in AS, STU, ESP and SM. AS allows the least mods and is cheapest to be competitive and SM the most mods and most money needed to be competitive.

In the beginning driver skill is the most important factor so don't change the car just tighten the nut behind the wheel.

Go to scca.org and read the rules if you haven't yet. Locally the number of participants and competitiveness vary widely.

If no one is in your class you essentially win the class by default but will compete with all participants in PAX(an index used to compare times across all classes equally)

Huh, sounds cool. Well the TBE is going on soon..

I guess my priorities are going to be totally slanted towards daily driving for now anyway. This is my only vehicle.

I'm a little afraid of running the TBE without the Cobb Reflash due to the warnings about boost creep. Still, it is a catted bellmouth DP so maybe I could get away with it..

My first day I get put in beginners class anyway right? Would they force me into SM even on my first day if I had the stage 2 reflash?

It depends on the region and also note that with the Cobb StreetTuner out there is the option of making an STU/ESP legal map for that yields more power than stock by adjusting timing and fuel, etc without touching boost control maps. I doubt that in the beginning anyone will be upset if you are running a stage 2 map but if you want to be speaky clean just run the stock map for autox and the stage 2 on the street since switching the real time map is quick and easy. I don't have an AP or street tuner yet and have a Vishnu TBE with only a high flow main cat and haven't had terrible boost creep, I am waiting to make sure the street tuner is worthy before spending my money and it is better spent on coilovers first also.

I would highly suggest signing up for a school to learn autox faster since in them you can many more runs in a day and much more condensed feedback to learn quicker.

You can typically run in the novice class as long as it’s your first season.

STU is a good class to get into if you have a few mods. You don't have to have all out race tires either. If you have the same thoughts about AutoX with your daily driver like most others...it's nice to just show up and race rather than changing wheels/tires before racing. STU you can run any street tire with a treadwear rating above 140 I believe.

Yeah I like all the STU rules except the infamous no boost increases but that is everywhere short of SM. I will be preping my car for STU this year hoping it gets popular and will be a national trophy class in 2007. But if not there is always race tires and ESP. Except for two piece rotors allowed in STU nothing important is allowed in STU and not ESP. I also really like showing up and not have to change tires.

What cars are in T-1? Is the STi that underpowered/poorhandling to go against cars in T-1?

Ah! So it sounds like they need a little more work, put a call into Subaru please. I suppose they should feel better since the M3 went to T-2 as well. I'd like to know what the Z06's have done to them, cause they sure aren't stock.

I was just checking the rules and in T-1 the STi weighs in at 3380 - Ummm...Can you say PIG! while the Z06 weighs 3260. Plus the Z06 gets all the various add-ons from GM while the STi gets no help from Subaru. Haaa! No wonder they had a hard time.

I'm sure they will fair much better in T-2

correct but you may NOT run race tire as that defeats the name "Street Tire Ultimate", just had to make sure that was in there =)

Default time for colder plugs?

I don't think STU is "Street Tire Ultimate." It's called Street Touring Unlimited.
