| Professional STI Racer | I am going to the track next wednesday and I had a couple of questions on drag racing...i've only had experience with FWD so please bear with me First off, what is the best tire pressure? right now its F37/R33, is that good enough? Second, what mode should I have the DCCD in?...I've heard people say 65% but what setting is that? Third, for launching, basically i rev up and while im reving quickly come off the clutch and stomp the gas as im coming off the clutch and shift at around 7000-7200? I apologize if this info has already been covered... Thanks This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

| Junior STI Driver | I think everyone has there own way to launch, I prefer leaving the diff in auto if the track is a bit slick, ALWAYS avoid the wet, go around! Punch the throttle and keep it around 5 grand. As long as you keep punching the gas your boost will stay up rather than holding a steady 5 grand with a little gas. Let the clutch out freakin quick, no dumpin though. That always seems to work for me. I usually pull a 13.3 @ 100 with my stock sti. The rear diff pulled all the way back in manual mode is 65% Rear and 35% Front. I have never had much luck with this mode in drag, but then again where I go the track is usually slick. So just mess around a bit, that's what time only runs are for. Hope this helps out a bit. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | just to let you know that the guys who spend alot of times at the drags or doing hard launches have been replacing clutches at 20,000 miles or less. i'd hate to see you post again with clutch issues, a broken tranny, or broken half shafts. i think there is some videos of launching the STi on this forum, along with plenty of opinions, aside from stizzzle's, which by the way sounds similar to what others are doing, on how to best launch the STi. i think stock you would be doing well to do 13.1 at around 100mph with a 60 foot time of about 1.7 seconds. if you get a 60 foot time of 1.7 or 1.8 seconds you know you've figured it out. |

| Professional STI Racer | sounds good, ya in my rsx-s i replaced clutches at around 18-20k so im familiar with that ball game i also wanted to know, today i launched pretty alright and was flooring the car and when it came time to shift (at redline) i power shifted and i hard a clunk noise but the car still pulled while in second, what could it have been? kinda scared me |

| STI Driver | That clunk was your rear diff man! Its being jolted around on hard shifts which makes that noise from what I have heard and read on these boards. You can buy new bushings for the rear diff to reduce the noise, do a search. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2004 Trader Rating: (1) | Yes, whiteline makes a set...there may be others. an example is here http://www.subaruwrxparts.com/04sti-suspension.html (scroll down) i watched the installer at the shop i went to install these...there's quite a bit of give in the stock bushings... since having them put on the car i have noticed less 'thump' when accelerating hard / letting out the clutch quickly and the diff feels a bit more connected. Worth the cost and it's a fairly quick install. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
