Default Re: Slowboy Racing

With my car in the shop for piston and rods upgrade, I thought great time for a copper head gasket. Went online and found a great price with SlowBoy.

Ordered SCE 92454 SCE Pro Copper Head Gasket Impreza/WRX from SlowBoy on 1.31.08 for $122.01 with UPS 2nd day shipping ($29.12) as to not slow the build progress down. Total cost $151.13

2.4.08 A charge of 151.13 posts at my bank from Slowboy.

2.4.08 Received a voice mail from Slowboy stating the part was out of stock and would take a minimum 1 week to get. I called SCE directly to see if they had any in stock, giving them the part number listed above, SCE told me they might have enough parts in stock to build one though it would take at least 1 week, SCE was also kind enough to look up if they had any vendors that might have this part in stock. According to SCE they had not shipped any of this particular part number to anyone since 2006. At this point I decide since both SCE and Slowboy have told me about a week, I will stick with Slowboy since I had already placed the order with them.

2.7.08 Slowboy calls and states it will now be two weeks. I ask over the phone if Slowboy has an alternative and was told that they will have someone call me back and let me know. No call ever came.

2.8.08 Sent the following email to Slowboy:
"With the increased delay I would like to cancel this order and get a refund. Thanks again and I hope we can do business in the future." Later that afternoon I submiited a cancellation request via their website as well since I never received any acknowledgement from my initial email.

2.12.08 Received automated response from Slowboy stating I will be receiving a refund of $138.20?!?! as well as a response to my initial cancellation request email asking if anyone had gotten in contact with me. I respond that nothing has posted to my bank and to wait 48 hours for it to show.

2.15.08 A refund of $138.20 posts to my bank this morning. I send an email asking about why I did not receive my a full refund and a response via email is received that states:
"All cancelled orders are charged a 20% restocking fee (listed in terms and condition section)
We made an exception in your case and only passed on the fee SCE made us pay for canceling which was around 8%"

I asked why would I be charged a restocking fee for items NOT IN STOCK by either Slowboy Racing or SCE (since I had spoken to SCE the week before) as well as the fact that this 8% was being based not on the cost of the head gasket alone, but the cost of the head gasket and the 2nd day UPS shipping.

Response from Slowboy:
"I understand your out $12.xx but we get charged for canceling the order, the web processing fee, credit card fees and then the fee we have to pay to refund your money."

I object to being charged for something no one as in stock and then expect to pay a penalty just for the luxury of ordering from Slowboy Racing. Last email response I receive from Slowboy states......"I will forward this on to the manager and see if there is anything we can do."

I was going to wait for said manager, but after thinking about it, I thought it would be best to share my experience with Slowboy thus far.

Restocking fee for something not in stock. That's really funny. You did the necessary step with the business. If you are still not satisfied you can post a case with BBB.

I just had the same problem with my local dealer but it resulted to my favor without contacting BBB. GL

Personally I would never do business with them again. It took me a month to get an uppipe and that was only after talking directly with a manager who found out that they had completely skipped my order. It doesnt surprise me to hear another bad review about them.

well most people don't know your friend, so we are left to assume they do business like most other companies, and then left to find out for ourselves that they aren't very good.

Just an update that I was finally refunded in full by Slowboy Racing. I hope this is sign that things in the future may be better.

I have not had time to read this whole thread but, I will add this short story...

My car before the sti was a 97 gsx, 20g turbo, fmic, injectors, custom tranny from T.R.E and every bolt on money can buy.. Any way it was time for a new motor and I used to hang out over at Machv “dsm forums”.. So I decided to buy a stg 2 block from mach v
So 4 months later suppose to only be about 3 months the motor arrived I was very happy to get my babe back on the road. So I started the install all went good. I drove 1000 mile break in period.
It was time to get dyno and tuned so I take my car to AMS drop it off and I get a phone call 1 hour later from the tuner telling me to come back to the shop. Me “is every thing ok” tuner “no “.. Well it turns out that my brand new stg 2 block that I spend $4,000 on had CRANK WALK WTF…. Now there is no need to get into what happened after but let’s just say, i would never buy anything from SBR or machv agian!!!!
I do have every e-mail and pm from this incident saved, so maybe I’ll do a better Wright up some day, but what ever it happened about 4 years ago….just thought id share

edit: just read the whole thread and all i can say is wow!! how is this place still in biss...

I ordered an APS 70mm CAI from them last week and it came a week later (yesterday) with no issues. I guess I was lucky that I received some satisfactory service from SBR. Anyways I'm grateful things worked out for me with this vendor!

WTF? Are you the Walmart of car parts? No one should have to smear a company just to make sure "the right person finds out." This is complete BS. You posting on here and validating this guys story is worse than you not posting at all. Now I don't just -think- your company screwed him, but I know you screwed him. Thank god I live in MD and have plenty of reputable shops to go to....

yes, i bought the motor from mach v, it did not blow up!! how does it have ant thing to do with you, because you guys built the motor and sent it with crank walk.. your 600% larger that's great why do i care and 2 people still work there since 4 years ago that great once agian why do i care!! machv and you guys didnt care that you built a crap motor and sold it and didnt want to fix the prob.. thing changed like what you have real techs working for you now. what after you riped hundreds of people off, you can pay people to do the job right, like it was supposed to be the first time " not 4 year later".. what ever man dont pm your crap.. sorry you had a bad experience with me

this was a pm sent to me from sbr and my response.. i think just a sorry or no pm would have been better, or a post so every one can see.. this is your customer service.. sbr please dont pm me agian!! i will continue to tell people what happened!!
