Thumbs down Spun Autosports - Bad Customer Service

4/21/08 - Sent payment by paypal for a TurboXS FMIC
4/22/08 - Spun states that it shipped out and I will receive it on 4/28/08
4/24/08 - I found out that the TurboXS FMIC will not work with my APS 70mm cold air intake and so I called them to find out if i can return it and purchase
the APS DR525 from them...they state that i could but there would be a 20% restocking fee. I told them that I had not even received it yet and that I would pay for the shipping back to them, but they said they would still have to charge me the 20% restocking fee. I didnt want to pay the restocking fee so i figured i would just try to sell it on nasioc or iwsti. I was not going to argue with them about this since they stated that it had already shipped and it was my fault for not checking to see if it would work with my intake ahead of time.
4/30/08 - No intercooler so i ask for the tracking #. They give me the tracking # and the tracking info states that it did not even ship until 4/25/08!!! This is 3 days after they have already told me that the item shipped and 1 day after they told me that they would have to charge me a restocking fee. They had not even shipped the item yet and they wanted to charge me a restocking fee??

I am very disappointed with the service that I received from Spun Autosports.

Restocking fees are usually a measure to avoid people buying things like TV's and speakers...not things like FMIC that require it being installed into a car ( I was in the AVindustry for 15 years)...Besides it still would have been in an unopened box. The fees are also applied for trans shipping sales...ie. a vendor does not have it and orders it to be direct shipped to you. Check to see if the address it left from is the address you paid to.

Also, their website states nothing of a 20% restocking fee.
"from their site under shipping and returns"
Ordering

Orders can be placed directly off of the website using our secure server. Orders can also be taken over the phone, email, and selected message boards. If you choose to pay by PayPal please contact us for payment information

Shipping

All items purchased directly off of the website unless otherwise stated will be shipped using ground service. If a faster shipping method is desired please phone your orders in or email us for a shipping quote. We use the following shipping methods depending on the product and location: UPS, DHL, FedEx, USPS. Special order items may take up to at least 2 weeks depending on the product.

Call em up and yell at em!!! I would...

Joe

It says canceled orders that have been shipped - they hadn't even submitted the shipping info when you called to switch, plus the fact you didn't want a refund, just a different product.... I say call them and tell them you caught them in a lie, and either they correct it or you're going to the better business bureau...Assuming this is the whole unbiased story.

I donno if thats bad service, its all listed for you in there Terms. As well a restocking fee with items like this is common. About the shipping you should always add an extra week to things like that. As for that I can't even say thats bad.

For my last car I ordered a hood in December that was a limited run they were only making 25 of them. Well they said cuz of the mold and making them they would be ready and shipped in feb. yea well after then not taking any phone calls or returning emails at all it shows up in Late April, 2 months late and no customer contact latr. on top of it it came with a crack in it but no damage to the box. i finally get them on the phone and they said since i took it out of the box theres nothing they could do. So i was like yea sure cuz I have XRAY VISION and I can see it through the box. that was bad and thats not even the half of it.

I think u exaggerating this, as for the APS CAI u should have looked into that before purchasing, Not to sound like an ass but you do have to research ur parts to make sure they mate up.

I guess if i was in ur shoes i would be pissed too but u shouldn't post bad customer service when none of it was there fault and they also have all that info listen in there policies.

Also if it was part of a group buy I can deff see why the wouldn't take it back, and I would be on there side if this is out of a group buy all the way.

I did not purchase this item through their website...i purchased through PMs on NASIOC and by using paypal. They should inform all of their customers who place orders this way of this 20% restocking fee. If I had used their website to order it, then its my fault completely. I can understand if this is a special order item, but this is a TurboXS FMIC that everyone sells. Hundreds and hundreds are probably sold by different resellers a week.

This is a gray area. Vendors SHOULD make their customers aware of the terms before purchase, but the customer should take measures to do it as well. When I ordered from Tom I checked his terms on the website before ordering, so I knew what I was getting into.

Bought a Blouch Dominator 3.0r with 3" inlet. A 2.4" version came in and I called them, they called blouch to let them know I was sending it back there to get refitted for a 3" inlet and even reimbursed me for the shipping to Blouch. That's customer service!! Not a problem with them at all and replied quickly.

Seems shady to me, they should not have said it had already shipped when it had not yet. 20 % restocking fee is crazy high also.

In reply to this issue-

We had to drop ship this order from one of our wholesale dealers. We keep the TurboXS front mount intercoolers in stock at all times but that day we had a number of orders for this product that exceeded our current stock. Instead of putting the item on back order until we got our next shipment from TurboXS I had it drop shipped from one of our wholesale vendors. I was informed that it was shipped the day I put the order in. From what it looks like it was not and Im sorry for the confusion.

Also since this issue I pushed to lower the restocking fee to 10% on all products and was aproved. We are just waiting for the web developer to update it on the site.

in reply to this, I had no issue with Spun, I was actually extremely impressed! I purchased a Perrin Setup from them off a group by which was being matched to sig series piping with the black core and was a special order from perrin from what I understood. Well the group buy ended and the FMIC was at my door with in a week. I didn't expect it for 2-3 weeks since they had to put the order in with Perrin and what not for exactly how many.

I had exact opposite. I was extremely impressed!
