Default XXTuning and Meth....

Brothers,
There are precious few times in life when one receives what one pays for...there are even fewer times, and you know what I mean, when one receives more. My trip to XX today was one of those times...I actually feel like l've found a "secret", a hidden treasure, and I feel strongly compelled to share it with others (as well as give strong credit where it's due).

The shop is a good 2hours away without traffic, and that's never, so roundtrip it took me 6 hours...and I'll do it everytime without complaint.

Am I gushing?...yep, and if you ever go there you'll know why. Now to the point...
I've seen the XX guys at the tracks, shared asphalt with them, and they know how to prepare an STI for the grind. Chris spoke with me about what I'd be doing with the car...drag?street?track?...and I answered autox and roadcourse.
The roadcourse-use dictated a conservative tune, as 20 minute track sessions demand more safety than 12 second drag pulls. With that decided, off to the dyno...

My mod list:
*06 STI with the following mods:
*Fram AirHog airfilter- That's right, AirHog...K&N doesn't have an animal mascot so they lose out
*Prosport Header with included uppipe
*used Perrin catless downpipe
*used 3" exhaust...didn't know what kind but XX told me it is an old APS - picked it up for peanuts, I won't share how much because you'd all hate me then.
*Snow Performance water/meth injection kit with MAF controller
*2/3 meth...1/3 water - easy to measure with gallon containers for my 12L tank
*Cobb V2 Accessport with Stage 2 tune

That's it. Not a whole heck of alot of engine stuff, but enough for some fun...

Baseline of Cobb Stage 2:
280hp at 5300 rpm
300tq at 3600 rpm
-Chris at XXTuning asked if my car was tuned prior, I said no, because he was impressed with the numbers.

The tuning started...
Several pulls later he was done:
320hp at 5300 rpm
380tq at 3350 rpm
What is most surprising, besides the peak gains, is the area "under the curve" and how the curve shifted very much to the "left".
-At 3000 rpm the numbers went from 200tq to 320tq = +120tq
-At 3200 rpm the numbers went from 220tq to 370tq = +150tq
I don't spend much time under 4K rpm on the roadcourse, but autocross puts me down in the low 3K rpm range at times...I wonder how an extra 150tq coming out of corners is going to affect my times....(insert ****-eating grin here)

Without needing to say it, the car feels quite transformed and I am very pleased.

I have quite a bit of data from a couple of roadcourses and I'll compare my pulls with a VBox PerformanceBox (GPS based) to see "real-world" differences...more to follow.

Short story -
This is the place where I will bring my car when something needs to be done that I can't do myself. I will drive the hours to get there, I'll pay the towing fee to get my car there...and I'll be happy to do it.
I highly recommend XXTuning and Chris' tuning kung-fu.

Be good,
TomK

My GF just agreed to accompany me to XX in august for a clutch install. After that's done, other goodies will go in and tune. =) I too live about 2 hours from XX and I've made the trip out there 3 times so far for work without complaints.

Tom,

As I posted on the other forum:

Thank you for the kind words about us.. Not too often are we spoken about on this forum, but sometimes we prefer to lay low and make sure our customers are happy. There are many times when things are all about "peak numbers" rather then overall performance, we try to build and tune cars that last, and our race cars prove that theory.

Tom, thank you again for the write-up and your business, be sure to let us know if you need anything else.

Great numbers. Close to what I ran on Stage 2 and meth. The car must feel amazing now.

Could you do a protune roadtune? I feel you get the most out of a tune when the car is subjected to realworld conditions

Just wanted to share the GREAT experience that I had yesterday with Chris and XX Tuning. I chose XX because of the positive reviews that I have seen on both here and Nabisco. Well safe to say, I was not dissapointed. Now onto the car...

2000, BRP, GF Wagon

07 STI motor/ECU
04 STi 6spd w/dccd & R180
FP Green 3"-8cm
GC8 FMIC
GT Spec header/ upipe
DW 850 cc injectors
APS shortram
APS inlet
Invidia v3 DP
Perrin single tip CBE
APv2
Prodrive EBCS
blah blah blah
---------------------

Some history on the car....
This car was built and "tuned" by another shop here on the east coast. I had bought this car less then a week ago and noticed immediately that the car ran like SH**. Thats when the call went out to XX Tuning.

Tuning time...
I had concerns that the car was exhibiting the early symptoms of the 'I blew up my 07 STI" issue. My worries were confirmed when the baseline run was taken. 14.7 afr well into boost, dropping to 10.5, then leaning out to 12.5 near redline thanks to an improperly scaled MAF.

Chris then came out a couple hours later to tell me that my car was done and that there was good news and bad news. The good news was that he was able to make more power and torque with 3~4 lbs less boost. Power now comes on early and stays strong until redline. The bad new... The maf was maxed out at 6700 rpm. The bad news was not of big concern to me because I am not looking for earth shattering numbers. My main concern was was power delivery, driveability, and longevity. All of which are taken account in this tune. In the end, I made 340~ whp and 370~ wtq. That was more then enough to put a grin on my face that stretched ear to ear.

I dont have the graphs on hand to scan and post. But Chris can post them if he would like. I could have easily driven to other tuners that were much closer to me. (it was almost a 3hr drive to XX.) but in the end I chose XX because of the top notch service and knowledge. You guys now have a new customer for LIFE.

Thanks again to Chris for the GREAT TUNE, and Phil for keeping me entertained and showing me all of the gorgeous chassis fab work that they are capable of.
