I believe that the helix catted dp has a bung before the cat. I am not 100% sure. Are you saying that it is more accurate to read arf from before the cat?

In my experiances, you get a more stable and truer readings the closer to the turbo you get. When you use an exhaust clip the readings are diluated a bit. (again all my opinion)

the spt can cause restrictions in power as it does taper to 2.7". i have experienced this but i love the sound so i stick with it!!!

You could look at it that way then. But start applying even elementary concepts of thermodynamics, pumping losses, and optimized volumetric efficiency, and you quickly realize one very simple truth. Timing is not a knob for power.

But, as per what I said above, the moral is that tuning is subjective; an art per se, subject to the rules of interpretation, with a spattering of science thrown in.

In short. There are dozens of different ways you can tune something to reach the same exact power point. In the end, your comfort level dictates to you certain understandings that you feel shouldn't be crossed to reach that goal. My interpretations are different. Does it make either of us right? IMO, no. At least I'm open minded enough to accept the possability that there is another way of doing it. Even if I don't necessarily agree.

Cheers!

Brother, I apoligize. You are correct. I dont agree fully with your methods but you make a valid point. Ive always seen tuning experiance and luck based. Ive tuned a good amount of subies and evo's to include 3 of my own. One took gobs of timing and lean AFR's like a champ, one blew itsself into oblivion. I looked at it as luck. Luck that the motor I had wasnt imploding and luck that I wasnt a trained tuner back then, but chomping away at the bit to get there and actually making headway and power I could brag about! I guess, as I stated above, its all my experiances and dumb luck that a crazy idea might work. You have proven just what Im stating by running the AFR's like you do. So my hats off to ya!

P.S. I like to ramble so forgive me!

interesting speculation.....What do you think I-speed tunes their AFR to?

I bet they are along the lines of Jorge. Lean is mean....Lean is Power.

But lean can also mean quicker death to the motor, I proved that with my 2nd STi. And I dont slob poles of any tuners or shops, I form my own opinion based off of things Ive seen and did, speckled with the luck that I dont make the same mistake again!

Default UPDATE: Got tuned this weekend. What you think?

Hey all, thanks for all the feedback with my tune. I saw Jack on Thursday and he was hellbent on making me happy. We did a run with the original tune and the afrs did not look as it did before. It definitely did not creep to 13s in the high RPM range. Keep in mind that the afrs on the graph is approximately 0.3 higher since being read from the tail pipe.(Jack, feel free to correct/add any info)
What do you all think this time around?

Thanks again.
