does the fact that the car has a cat make a difference in the afr when reading out of the tailpipe??

From a guy who likes to tune standpoint, your leaning out way too much up top. These cars seem to stay happy (dont blow up) around 11.1-11.2. The boost is dropping off way too much as well. (Just my opinion)

yes boost did seem to fall off a bit much......might be a bit too much restriction in the exhaust...and usually i like to leave them at around 11.4-11.6 afr .......seems to get the healthiest results....

11.4- 11.6 is way too lean. 11.1-11.2 is as lean as is safe. I tuned my old STi to 11.5 and my motor lasted 3 months. The car will run, but the longevity of the motor decreases 10 fold. Also I would like to see the EGT's on that car. I dont believe timing will decrease that heat being produced in this case. You stated above that the EGT's were well out of calabration range. This alone should have said maybe the cars way too lean or timing advance may be needed. If you already tuned to max torque and timimg isnt an issue with EGT's then I would usually say its too lean. (THESE STATEMENTS ARE MY OPINION AND NOT FACT!)

Was it an AP Protune, UTEC ECUTEK or some other form of EM? An AP will shut off the CEL's. If its a catless pipe you will throw CEL's and a catted pipe may still throw O2 codes. (AGAIN, STILL MY OPINIONS AND FROM MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIANCES!)

I guess I should have educated myself a bit more about tuning and afrs before I got a tune. I know that the boost is dropping off hard but is this the norm for a catted dp? I did not think that that would happen. Could the restriction be comming from my spt cat back??

Could be that, could be the way the wastegate duty cycles are ramped. Id have to se the map and know what the car was tuned with to make any kinda guess. And over the internet, it would just be a guess.

Different strokes for different folks with regard to AFR. RiftsWRX (Jorge) is a very popular tuner and many people here have tunes done by him. He tunes for 12:1 AFRs (lower timing).

Sorry guys, but 12:1.... good luck and best wishes, no timing at all isnt gonna save your blocks. I am by far not an expert, but that dude would never touch my car personally. Do more research, the longevity of your cars have been cut by a lot. I always say that what I state on here is my opinion, but this one is fact!

the afr readings on this car dont mean anything since the car is catted and the afr was measured at the tailpipe.

They will be a bit off. It would be smart to weld an extra bung before the cat for a true reading or let it be a mystery and when the block craps out just get a new one. I wish I had money like that!

ha ha your funny! Jorge has tuned well over a thousand subaru's (40 a month avg) and I have been running his tunes for 2+ years (20k miles to 45k miles) with absolutely no problems(stock block).

O and guess what I have had an egt probe and afr meter since before his tune. Egt probe is on the casting button near #4 exhaust port. Fourth gear pulls yield a max of 1650F on a new exposed tip probe(which is lower than the RICH cobb stg 2 map was 1715F). Afr goes from 12 to 11.5 by redline. Motor has 45k on it now and does not eat more than a 1/8qt of Mobile 1 5w30 every 3000miles.

Maybe I have a magical block since running those afr should kill it. lol

And yes these are all facts.
