Default Cost of Protune here in SLC, Utah

**NEW INFO
Ok i called COBB today 11/10/05 about the cost of a protune again.
They asked what mods I have and said the Typhoon would require 2 hours of extra tuning depending on the problems they run into with the intake. They said out the door it would be about $1000 bucks for the tune. Anyone got the number for Harmanmotive, i'll take a vaca to cali and get tuned for less then that.**

I live in Salt Lake which is great because Cobb Tuning is local.
I called them about a protune for my car and they said it would be
about $800 bucks with my mods... ?
Doesn't that seem a bit high? I keep reading about Harmon and a few other places that sound like they charge about half that.

So should I shell out for Cobb or drive to the next local tuner which isn't exactly close by?

Positives -
1 Cobb tuning for Cobbs own accessport.
2 About 4 miles from where i live, in the high altitude of Utah.
3 I can always just drive over if I have any questions.

Negatives -
1 Cost
2 ??

They just relocated and Im going to call them again just to check on price before i make up my mind and drive to california or colorado for a protune.

most people I have heard get protuned are paying between 250 and 400.

$800 seems like a ripoff, but depending how in depth they go, it COULD very well be fair. What is included? For $800 it better include AT LEAST 3 hours of dyno tuning, and a good bit of road tuning after to fine tune it.

yeah the "average" for the big tuners is $200 an hour.
I paid $690 for my UTEC dyno tune to Phil when he was with turboXS.
It was 3 hours on their dyno, and about 30 or so min of road tuning.

I came in getting meh gas milage, had some det issues and I made 269whp@19PSI

For my money I got
3 maps
Map 1-- 260whp@16PSI
Map 2-- 271whp@18PSI
Map 3-- 309whp@21PSI

I also left getting 40miles more out of every tank of gas, a MUCH smoother running car.

There is no way you could beat the 40whp and HUGE drivability gains I got for the 690 I spent.

For $800 you better be getting one HELL of a tune.

that's funny. The other professional tuner didn't need the extra time and able to tune.

Just go to a more professional tuner

I also live in SLC and have checked with COBB for a protune. I have COBB's stage 2 without and aftermarket intake and they still said to plan on 3 to 4 hrs for the tune at $200 per hr. Way too much $$$$$ for me. Too bad no one else is doing pro tunes in the SLC area.

The problem with doing a protune in Cal. is that the tune will be for sea level. I don't think the tune will be good for 4300 ft elevation back in SLC
