Just make sure that your tuner has experience with similar cars at similar altitudes. The ECU/protuner has the capacity to make adjustments for altitude, if the tuner has done similar cars at the altitude it'll be tuned at, and the altitude you live at, they should be able to make it fine.

Really, they generally don't need much adjustment to the altitude compensations, depending on mods...

Depending what modifications you have, most tunes take no longer than 2 hours. Although, most aftermarket intakes do not add much power if any and additional time is require to get the vehicle tuned properly and consistent. Please PM me if you have any other questions about our tuning fees or tuning for elevation.

Take care,
Christian.

So CHRISTAN.

According to you, who is associated with COBB, iirc, in the above post your quote comes out to $428 for a protune. Which seems reasonable and fair.

Now I wonder why COBB quoted $800, and $1000 for the tune repeatedly?
I have been quoted that, and I know two other people locally that have been quoted that. Thus why we have not gotten or considered getting protruned, even if the actual price of a protune is $428 according to your last post.

Why not just give the correct price to start with? Or ask all the needed questions about the car and mods to be able and give a accurate cost of a tune? I am sure that if you did that you would be doing a lot more business tuning WRX's locally.

just my humble opinion

I asked the same question right before accesstuner came out and was told the same thing. I was blown away by that.

I do not know. I am the one who completes the tuning here. I would imagine the people calling need to ask for me when they call since I take care of the scheduling and tuning. I would imagine if you asked me to quote you for welding and fabrication (something that Josh does), CFD test a CAE file (something that Dave does), editing the AccessECU UI software (something that one of our software engineers does), I would quote you wrong. Actually, I would not quote you at all...I would have let you know that I have no idea how much any of that would cost and I would direct you to the proper person. I will apologize to those who have been quoted that much or whom were directed to the incorrect people.

The sales, customer service, and technical support people are given a very good sales system which does not have a line item that says "Tuning" at a cost of "$1,000.00". I know because I looked. All that I found was a line item for AWD Dyno use for $125.00 and tuning for $89.00, per hour. I just do not know how that figure would come up. Too many other qualification questions must be asked in order to give a proper bid. FWIW, our accounting system creates estimates which are e-mailed to clients at their request. These estimates are in a .pdf format, I would appreciate it if those who have proof (I am not questioning any one or calling any one a liar) of that absurd tuning rate e-mail them to me at christian@cobbtuning.com. I will give that person 75% off that rate. Sound reasonable? I will sit down with the person(s) who created these estimates to make sure they are educated on how to properly quote a tuning session.

Some cars take more than two hours, some take less. Do the math and the tune is $214/hour. Most people can always ask me to stop if they see the tuning costs are getting too much.

Regardless, I know that the rates I quoted you earlier in this thread are our rates for tuning and they have been our rates for over two years now. Oh, and if anyone would like us to tune for the $1,000.00 rate...please write the check to Christian Krahenbuhl or cash. Ya, that’s the ticket.

Take care,
Christian.

Thanks for the update Christian. I bought my turbo back system from you. All I can say is who ever is answering the phone at COBB should have been giving the same estimates as you gave, or if they didn't know the rate they should have transferred the call to you. Us customers can't know who does what at COBB that needs to be handled internally.

I am happy to hear that the price is much less than what I was originally told. I am now saving my $$ and will call and schedule a protune with you.

One other question I have for you, what is the average hp, torque gains with a protune over stock stage 2?

Thanks again Christian.

Thumbs up

Christian,
in fact I probably should have talked to you because the person who answered the phone said... "Let's see Christian will tune it, but that Typhoon will cause you fits so it's going to be around $1000 after taxes and everything." It was $800 when I called about a month ago, and I didn't have the Typhoon then, hence the increase? But that still seems high does it not?

I'm sure that had I gone straight to you I would have received a more accurate quote, but I don't work there so I didn't know who handles what and who exactly to talk to.

I've sent you a PM with my Car's info/mods and my contact info.
Will you please take a look and get in touch with me about cost?
I can come in anytime for the ProTune.
Thank you for your time and the clarification.

I have made improving our team communication a priority. Hopefully we will be able to get client's questions answered by the proper persons in a more efficient manner. Thank you for your patience, we are still finishing up the move and will need more time to get things better.

It is very difficult to state the increase in power, some vehicles I de-tune when they come in because the engine data, chassis dyno recordings, and motor are telling me that is what needs to happen to promote longevity. Most of the time the STis show a minor improvement in the area under the curve (when comparing before and after torque curves) and the vehicles drives more smoothly. I can usually get boost to come on a little sooner, smooth out the drive, then I can see if the vehicle responds to running richer or leaner, etc. To be honest the STis are pushed very hard at this elevation, some times improvements are not as great as expected.

Take care,
Christian.

sounds like a company problem to me, why would you make it the respoinsibility of the customer to know that they need to ask for someone specific at the shop???? Time for a little employee training i.e. don't answer questions that you don't know the answer to!

what kind of company is this?????

From what I've heard their new place is pretty nice, and I'm looking forward to getting protuned by Christian and posting the results soon.
