Thanks! Even more to videos to come...

The difference in lag between the tuned SZ55 and the tuned stock VF39 is pretty significant. HOWEVER, the SZ55 can accomplish the same simple tasks(moderate to ridiculous passing power) as the stock turbo but can stay in vacuum(off boost) at the same time. The torque of the STi 2.5L is still there with you no matter what, so don't forget that! This car is a dream to drive around town with. Although the SZ55 is a bit more laggy...having had the stock set up and this new set up tuned on my car, I prefer the way this set up acts more. Most guys like the instantaneous response from the smaller VF39(which by no means is a bad thing at all!), but boosting all the time even at part throttle really got annoying and really didn't help with gas mileage. I like knowing that I can keep the car very well behaved until I call upon boost...but, around town I see no need to be boosting with this turbo.

DING DING DING!
<<< pat on back >>>(sorry I'm a cheap ass, well, NOW a broke ass )

Yah we're used to seeing Deadbolt's SZ49-SZ55 series turbos with the 20G compressor cover. For some reason, Deadbolt shipped out my SZ55 using the 18G compressor cover---like the one that FP uses for their Green turbo. I really don't care what cover he used as long as it performed, and boy did it perform! Maybe Jerry at DB was running a little short on 20G compressor covers at the time my SZ55 was being built? Who knows...

When you're off the boost, does your EWG scream as it does when you're at WOT? I'm guessing no...

No the EWG only opens when I'm on boost(aka when I romp on it ). If it was open all the time like it is on boost, I'd have to shoot myself.

Very interesting. I like the idea of driving around with no boost around town. That would save a lot of gas. I'll probably look into getting 'almost' the same setup as you . I'll probably be doing all this when I pick up my '06 . I gotta save up some mod money first, hehe.

Do you know any of Harmon Motive cars ever making it to the 1/4 track. Just curious his dyno numbers relativly equate to about what ET and trap speed. I am asking this in the most friendly way with good intentions (not asking this to bash or hate or anything like that). I looked at their site and looks like they are bulinding a lot of good cars. Also interesting is to see SR55 on the same dyno tuned by the same tuner in comparsion with the SZ55 internally gated (SR55 made 350 and SZ55 maded 380).

Again nice set up and enjoy. By the way I love the FP Green compressor cover; to be honest though this sounds really silly I really didn't like the compressor cover on the SZ49 and liked the FP Green compressor cover look better...Jerry did tell me once that based on his experience that ugly cover flowed better/more air than the other covers...Did Dan mentioned anything about his as far as its flow capability etc compared to the standard SZ49/55 compressor cover? Thanks.

Don't worry no offense taken whatsoever, Soze. As for any of the Harman-built/tuned cars hitting the 1/4 mile, I really couldn't tell you. IIRC, there was one Harman tuned STi with an EWG FP Green set up that hit the 1/4 mile a few times, but I don't recall what time he ran. Unfortunately I have no plans to do any 1/4 mile runs with my car as it's set up for trackdays, doing laps on a course so I would be of no help. Feel free to shoot Dan Harman an e-mail, I'm sure he's got a running list of people he tuned who have done drag runs. His e-mail is Dan@HarmanMotive.com

Funny you mention the compressor cover on my SZ55. When Dan first broke the seal on the box the SZ55 came in and pulled the turbo out, I was a little apprehensive because I was USED to seeing 20g compressor cover that Deadbolt usually uses on his Zilla20G/SZ49/SZ55 turbo's. The packing slip in the box said "SZ55 Fatboy" so we decided to just slap it on regardless and see what it would put out and see if it really truly was an SZ55....and it was! Dan didn't mention anything regarding the difference in flow between the two covers, but by the looks of how everything turned out, the difference in flow between the covers seem nominal, if any AT ALL. We even took Ivan's(the other SZ55 Fatboy STi Dan tuned) dynoplot and put it on the same plot for my car, nearly identical behavior on the dyno. I believe his SZ55 had the 20G compressor cover. The only real differences between my set up and Ivan's set up is that he is running Deadbolt's 38mm internal gate on his SZ55 Fatboy, is running TGV deletes, and was tuned using EcuTek software. Other than that, our cars behaved and performed identically. I'm also happy that my set up has shown that a ProTuned Cobb Accessport can handle a susbstantial set up just fine.

That is very sweet! I hope to be going to a bigger turbo down the road soon. Looking forward to more videos. Very nice.
