....and really shouldn't have been mentioned in this thread.

You have nothing to worry about esemes. Also, said wrecked car took the FTD at the last auto-x, Scott tuned it.

Some day I'll get my Turbo and head up that way. I wish it was sooner than later.

So Ese what is the deciding factor on the SR55 over the other turbos? Just curious...

Messing with cam advance is a huge deal...you want to completely throw off MAP readings that's how you do it.

I've only recently heard of people messing with the cam advance maps with the STi...I was under the impression that Clark@Kingpin was the only person doing it. He said he's making tons of low end torque messing with it...and I don't doubt it. I'm at a crossroads in choosing my next tuner(either Clark or Shiv) and I think Clark's cam advance maps might sway me towards using him. All I said though was that messing with cam advance messes with a lot of factors(meaning a lot of adjustments to other maps are necessary...but that's obvious and expected...). That's all =).

How much is the SZ49? Doesn't it require an external wastegate as well?

Wow guys I appreciate all the kind words. We have been fortunate enough to do quite a few Ecutek's lately. STi #27 was just a few days ago. We just broke 60 Ecutek's in the last 8 months or so, with the 27 STi's being the last 4 months...

As for the cam timing, it is a GREAT way to make tons more bottom end, of course, you do have to tune for it. Clark @ Kingpin is almost undoubtably the most knowledgeable guy in the country for all of this. Fortunately we are not really competitors, being in opposite corners of the country, and he has been one of the most helpful people I have ever spoken with. We spent a few HOURS on the phone the other day talking mostly about cam-timing adjustment. WOW, even when you think you know what you are doing, and your turning out great results, there is always more to learn. Any of the posts that Clark releases about tuning are well worth reading until you understand them. Thanks again for those Clark.

Just to help settle people's mind, the "incident" mentioned above had NOTHING to do with tuning. If anybody has any questions please contact me directly.

Sachin, both Clark and Shiv are great tuners. They both have HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of hours tuning these things. I have had great experiences dealing with both shops, and specifically have heard essentially nothing but positives about Clark and Shiv. Recently my talks with Clark have been great. He is immensely helpful and knowledgeable (sp?). I have high confidence saying you can't go wrong with either. Call them both and see what you think. I haven't had need to call Shiv directly yet, but calling Clark shocked me at how helpful he was...

Anyway, the SZ49 is likely a few hundred $$$ upgrade to the TD06H/20G. I don't know that I would say it "requires" the external, just that it would be much better with it.

It looks like we have some pretty serious people reading this thread, and it is probably a good time to let everybody know that these big turbos are really going to be pushing the limits of the stock blocks. If you are planning to beat on these things every day you should think about 2 items: Forged Pistons, HKS AVC-R or some other gear-dependant boost control.

These blocks should be pretty happy with 400 whp in first through 4th at just over 20 psi, but pushing that in 5th and 6th trying to do 160mph for an hour is a good way to hurt one. Forged pistons, (Crawford or Axxis S2 block $2299) and/or gear-dependant boost where we can dial back 5th and 6th will extend the life of these 150+ whp gains

Thanks again for the kind words, if anybody ever wants to ask any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime,
Siegel

Hey Esemes,

I have a quick question for you! First off, I really respect your advice, and the fact that you are sharing all this info with us. Cool to know that you live in florida too. Must get a ride when that thing is done...lol.

Anyhow, If you plan on makeing around 400whp, what are your plans for the engine? I only ask because it has almost become a "rule" to not pass 350whp on a daily driver without forged components. Just pickin your brain alittle. Have siegel or clark brought this up? I did read siegels post about engine life, just trying to see if peoples thoughts about the STI engine are changing.

Thanks,
Eric

he explained to me that at that hp level you are ok in the first 4 gears if you use an avcr unit to limit boost in the higher gears (5th and 6th)

Cool I'll see ya there, I'm taking the school then too. Scott tuned my car about 2 months ago, it was quite a drive from Tampa but I sure am glad I did it. The car runs so smooth and the power is better than any of my friends cars that had them done elswhere. The whole experience was great! You won't regret going to Scott.
