Default EcuTek tuned by MZM..

Got tuned on Monday at MZM.. Didnt have time to post it up then but heres the graph..

Mods

Aps 3.5 exhaust
Aps CAI
Fuel pump

Overall im very happy with the tune and MZM . I thought i would have made a little more Hp but im more than happy with the torque that i made.

Next thing is to get some APS headers and hopefully try and get close to the 300 hp mark..

Don't worry about the whp figures seeming low. That dyno reads alot lower than most others. tq looks real good.

On dynos that baseline stock STi's around 245-250whp/245-250wtq(usually Dynojets), that would put your tuned figures at around 305whp/330wtq when translated. MZM's dyno is one the lower reading dynos. On pump, that's AWESOME. Good numbers!

Default Mzm

I've debated weather or not i was going to write anything about my experiences with MZM. For those who don't know it's run by three brothers. Two of the three are awesome, and generally the work and craftsmanship is good. I guess i am that one in a million.

Let me start off by saying i have roughly three years experience with them. Like many of you i started out by reading the posts about them on this site as well as nasioc and some other local sites, like centexracing. My impression from all that i read was that they had matured as a business, i.e. they learned through the hardships of others how to deal with customers. I'll let you be the judge.

Now this is my first experience with a tuning shop, however a dollar is a dollar, and mine are very important to me. I work hard and have big dreams for my car as i'm sure all of us do. I, like many others, started out not understanding how expensive things are. For instance a 3,500 turbo kit, is just that a 3,500 turbo kit, but it'll always be more expensive because you're a subaru owner. That's not the kicker, just part of owning a subaru. The kicker is that labor is 95 dollars a hour at MZM so you wind up paying about 7,000 for the install. I know that's a gross generalization, but it's close to accurate.

They initially installed my cold air intake, followed by my frontmount and all the other aps products with the exception of the TSR 70. I had no problems with that situation. The install was timely and the price was upfront and i thought well worth it.

The next situation with mzm came after the car drowned wich was like two months after the cai was installed. Heavy rain just did it in. I ended up with a new short block and and a nice turbo. They hooked me up. The only problem i had was that they were running behind on getting cars out of the garage. i gave a little bit and took it in stride. It was all good.

After that i went out of country, with the 82nd hooah. I was in contact with them and we had a plan so that i would be able to get my car back shortly after i returned. They had over a month to plan things out and all the parts were there. Honestly i had some trouble getting the car to them so that set things behind about a week. Well i returned and the car wasn't ready. Now this is my daily driver and the agreed upon plan was to have it ready. I ended up waiting about a week before i was able to get it back. Small price to pay for having a piece of the dream. I dropped about 6,000 in parts and labor on that visit.

Now this is where it gets a little dicey. I strongly urge you to take all of this with a grain of salt cause it's only one side of the story, but here goes. Within a week of me getting the car from them it was back with a piston problem. Now with a stock tune and nothing more powereful than a stock turbo how did i manage to cause a piston problem. NO problem though i understand that you have to pay to play. They tell me that it would be easier to replace the short block than just to try to fix that particular problem so here we go again. Me wanting to seize the moment and make the most of it splurged and asked what else could i get done so that i'm making more power while not having to bring my car back for a while. I also mentioned that i wanted to race the car, auto x and time attack, but that the supporting engine mods for a tsr-70 would have to come later. So i needed reliability. They told me that it would take two weeks for everything to be ordered and installed. I asked if they were sure, they replied yes. I gave them three weeks, because i had to rent a car for that time. Since i was renting anyways i decided to stretch it out for a month. Little did i know that i would actually need all of that time.... and then some.

First it was a parts issue, they didn't have everything, then it was an installation issue, then it was just we need more time. In their defense they lost an employee, not to death, but family stuff, so i was understanding about that. My issue comes in when i constantly ask and wait patiently for the dates that you supply only to have those hopes dashed with excuses of how come you could keep your end of the bargain. On top of that. The quote that they gave me for the parts and installation as well as tunning ended up not being accurate. It cost me about a grand more. For all of this back and forth i was left with a car that now has to go back to the shop less than 2000 miles later for a turbo issue. Now. I bought the car new in 06 and have less than 5,000 miles o the engine that's in it. I've also had the car for less than half of the time i've owned it. As it stands now i'm trying to get in touch with them concerning the warranty on the turbo, but they won't call me back or answer the phone. I'll try from a private number and see how it works out. Mohammed has a tough job, so be understanding when you go if you go, but at the same time don't hesitate to demand good customer service. They'll never get better if we don't make them.

Quick update. They've gotten better. I don't know maybe i am that one in a million, you know that guy with the dark cloud over his head at all times. That one that if it weren't for bad luck wouldn't have any. Well, it's good to know that They do listen. I'm being taken care of, and i have every confidence that you as a potential customer will be too. Did i mention that i'm now 800 miles away and they are taking care of me. Props to MZM. Keep up the good work.
