IWSTI Addict since: May 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | Car was running great for a few days and then I threw a CEL for inefficient catalyst. So I reset the ECU and reloaded the base map and real time map. I kept having horrible problems with idle and stalling and was throwing P0171 CELs which is system running lean. I removed the 70mm intake and put on my 65mm and switched back to my old map. Guess what? Idle problem is gone and no more CELs. And now I've learned I'm not the first person on this forum to get a garbage tune from him. I'm sure Limited will be in here soon too. I have the same problem like you. CEL, idle, stalling, oil pressure drop so low, RPM jump up and down at idle. Sometime during at idle RPM drop down less than 200rpm most happen after warm up and going to take off. Oil pressure jump up/down- at idle 0.8-1.5kpa I decide to change my EM and tuner. And right now my oil pressure at idle never below than 2.0kpa. RPM smooth no jump up/down. I hope my motor still find after many miles with all the crap that happend to my engine.

| STI Driver | So where did this guy do this tuning at? I'm going to be looking into a tune next year for STU and DD so I'm going to need to figure out where to go. I'll probably just go with whoever Ron at Axis brings in but I always like to know who's doing what. Last edited by Dark_Helmet; 12-11-2007 at 07:30 AM. |

I have had 6 of my cars tuned by Clark Turner and I have NEVER had a problem with any of the tunes. Every now and then we would run into problems but he would always go above and beyond to help me. He even gave me his personal cell phone number to stay in contact so we could figure the problem out. He is a good guy, and I know for a fact that he was staying in contact wiht you to figure out the problem and then you crap on him and make a thread about him? Is it his fault that autozone deleted your map? Immature and not cool. If I were Clark I wouldn't ever help you again or even diagnose the problem.

I don't care if his tune is good now or not. The fact of the matter is he has been putting faulty realtime maps on customers cars. I specifically remember him saying, "Make sure you load the realtime map after a ECU reset or you'll blow up your engine." It sounds to me like he was being kind of negligent not making sure his maps were loading correctly. I've been tuned by two other reputable tuners, Doug and Jorge. Neither of them ever had any problem loading the maps. I never once got a CEL with either of their tunes and I got two different CELs with Clark's tune. I'm sorry, but I'll be sticking with Jorge in the future. Oh and by the way, I don't care if he ever works with me again and he completely misdiagnosed my problem the first two times. First it was a problem with my ECU and then it was a mechanical problem, when all along it was his realtime map being jacked up. Last edited by Muffnbluff; 12-13-2007 at 06:12 AM.

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2004 Trader Rating: (5) | Sorry to hear this guys. My tune in St Louis turned out really good. One hiccup, when I left the tuning facility on my 2 hour drive back home my car overboosted and threw a CEL at about 3/4 throttle in 6th gear. I stopped and checked my map and for some reason my ECU was still running the Cobb stg II economy map that I drove to the dyno facility on. No doubt the map threw a CEL and cut boost to protect itself as Cobb designs it since it's an economy map. So I cleared the CEL and placed the new stg II protune map from Clark on the ECU and it has been running great ever since. The other local guys that got tuned with me have said their tunes are great also. When I've contacted Clark with basic questions he's been very resonsive and helpful. Again - sorry to hear your experience was so bad. Mine has been and still is pretty good. BTW, every tuner has gliches that pop up. The best of them do. I've had cars tuned by Jorge, Doug, Tim Bailey, Clark, and Phil @ Element, and I've also run several Cobb base maps. Issues have come on some of the tunes. You need to work with your tuner because at some point when they tune thousands of cars something weird will happen. It's just the law of large numbers. The key is working with them to get it sorted out if some strange issue does come up and also if they have enough safety built into their maps to protect your engine in the event of some weird mechanical/tuning issue. Not saying you are right or Clark is right. Just stating my opinion. Last edited by SilverSurfer; 12-23-2007 at 02:49 PM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2004 Trader Rating: (2) | Knock on wood, but my tune has been great from Clark during the St. Louis tune. Maybe you should consider the fact that when you add crap to your car that is not factory you are typically going to run into issues. Ask SilverSurfer about that Just my 2 cents.
