Default Poor Experience with Chris @ XXTuning

I wanted to share the experience I had with Chris from XXtuning. I have a completly stock 07 sti with an AP. I live in NE pa and drove 4+ hours to XXtuning since I heard good things of Chris. There were many good tuners closer to me but I choose xxtuning as it seemed to stand on a solid reputation. My intentions on getting a tune was to make sure I have a completely safe reliable stock car stage 1 tune. Everybody at XXtuning was nice to my wife and I including Chris.
Well as far as the tune on my car went it has been a long and ongoing problem. When he finished the tune we went out for a drive so he could data log things. One of the first things he had me do was to disable the LC and FFS. Chris told me to give the car some gas as he adjusted the Cruise control to disable LC and FFS. I gave the car some gas and the revs shot somewhere past 8000rpm quickly before I was able to let off the gas. I told chris what just happened and he didn't believe me and said he would check it when we get back to the shop. We went on the test drive and the car drove different as it had a more sensitive throttle and did pull harder. My wife and I were tired, hungry and had to do a fair amount of driving yet to get to the Foxwood Casino and I forgot to remind him of the rev limiter not working. Maybe a couple days after I got home I decided to carefully test the rev limiter. I quickly tested it up around 7300-7400rpm and it did not work. Another problem I was having was the car stumbled very badly until it was warmed up for several minuits. I emailed Chris and he quickly replied and sent me a new map. The new map completly disabled LC and FFS and the rev limiter did work but at around 7200-7300rpm. The stumble on the cold car was also almost completly gone. I again was a happy camper. Chris even sent me another revision of the map with more improvements a couple days later.
I was happy using the map he made for me but I was encountering strange problems. Anytime I was to make a quick stop getting gas or picking up a movie and started my car up after being off for a few minuits I would have serious problems. When I started the car after these short stops the car would detonate very badly shaking the car vilently for around a minuite and a cell to pop up showing missfire. After awile the cell would go away and I thought maybe it was a bad tank of gas. The problem persisted and I kept getting cells. I emailed Chris and he sent me a new map again. I installed the new map and got some old problems back and new ones. The rev limiter don't work again, throttle is very sensitive and rpms stick often when clutch is depressed, and LC and FFS work again. Its actually hard to pull out smoothly as the smallest amout of throttle races the engine. The car even idles around 1000 rpm. The only good thing the map did is the detonation on start up stopped.
I have since been emailing Chris with no reply's to my concerns. I am sad to even be typing about this. In the end all I got was unsafe maps and aggravation. I have been extreamly courtious and thankful to Chris since day one. I did send another email to Chris before typing this explaining how unhappy I am with him not replying to my emails and concerns with the map.
I did not get a reply even after I stated I am considering posting my experience with him. In the end I am using the Cobb stage 1 map and am out a great deal of money time and possibly even damage to my car from over revving and detonation. I really didn't think I was asking for alot when I wanted a safe reliable stage 1 tune.

Chris tuned my car and I have the same warm start stumbling, rpm sticking with depressed clutch, 1k rpm idle going on but I'm not to concerned with it. I wouldn't expect that with a stage 1 tune. And the rev limiter and check engine lights suck, but I still think Chris is one hell of a tuner and if you give him some time, he is a very busy guy, I'm sure he'll get you straigtened out.

All of Chris' tunes idle at 1krpms to my knowledge.

What is LC and FFS?

I think you should cut Chris some slack. He has sent you several new maps in an effort to remedy the problem. I know him personally and know he will do what it takes to get things right.

Of course, posts like this only stand to inflame the situation further.

Yeah Im sure Chris will get back to you sometime soon. Also some of these issues may not be even related to tuning... may be the 07 car itself. Ive read too many things about these 07s, with that being said Chris tuned my 06 knowing I wanted it very conservative and I have had great results. Hope you get things figured out.

PS: do away with the LC and FFS (that just confuses things) they are gimmicks IMHO

I stated He has done much for me and I have been thankful. Im sure Chris can note I have been thankful for the many issues he has helped me with. I have also been sending him emails for some time with no responce. I hate to keep emailing Chris of the problems I been having but what else am I to do? I not making this stuff up I actually have all the emails I sent and received from Chris since day 1. I feel I don't get any responces from Chris as he is probally tired of hearing of my map problems. Is it my fault I keep having problems? I have been through a good amount of maps he has sent not one of them is safe to use. I hate to have to test maps out just to see if the rev limiter will work. Maybe Im going about this the wrong way. Nobody should go through what I have been patiently through. My wife is even upset with me since the money and time we spend has been wasted.

Your right about the LC and FFS I asked Chris to take it off before the Protune. It wasn't taken off untill he sent me the second map.

Definitely understand your frustration, I say forget about the LC and FFS. Im sure you care more about the regular driveability and safety of the car. LC and FFS are both programs that most people can agree put large amounts of stress on the engine and other parts.

Why do you need to have the rev limiter? Just be aware of how you are driving...
Seriously though, it sounds like he has tried to help and your car has some freak issues. Maybe just rely on the stock map and don't mod until you can afford to have the car looked over by a shop.

The rev limiter is a bit more of a concern to me than others possibly as I do like to autoX at times. There is no doubt Chris has tried to help me. I am now using the cobb maps as they all work without any problems. I don't feel my car is any different than any other 07 sti. Im pretty sure if somebody else with an 07 used one of the maps they will have the same issues. Actually I have a friend with a stock 07 sti with an AP thats been wanting to try one of the maps. I'm not to keen on the idea of letting him use a map made for my car.

I have been protuned stage 2 from Chris on my 05' STi for little over 50,000mi now with out a single issue. Give him some time to get back to you.

What you think is a safe tune and what the datalogging and tuner see as a safe tune may be two different things. What mods are you on your car? Personally I wouldn't have spent the money to get a stage 1 protune, that's just MHO. The off the shelf cobb map is perfectly fine for what you are doing.

I would also dump the LC and FFS, that is just going to cause more problems for you then it's worth.
