misfires and detonation are two very different things. What you explained is a misfire upon a warm restart. 07's really like to do this for some reason. Usually though it's a car with a lot of mods.

Tuning a stock car is not difficult. If you continue to have problems, I would recommend actually inspecting the car. You may find something simple like a vacuum leak or boost leak is causing these problems. When stock cars have issues, it's rarely the tune.

As a tuner I know how frustrating it is to have everyone point their fingers at the tune first and not take responsibility for their own car. I would estimate that over 85% of the time someone has claimed the problem was tune related, it wasn't.

Also, how many miles did you go with the COBB OTS maps on your car? What revision were they?

What you think is a safe tune and what the datalogging and tuner see as a safe tune may be two different things. What mods are you on your car? Personally I wouldn't have spent the money to get a stage 1 protune, that's just MHO. The off the shelf cobb map is perfectly fine for what you are doing.

I would also dump the LC and FFS, that is just going to cause more problems for you then it's worth.
Sorry if I sound a little rude but I did mention I didn't want LC and FFS before He did the protune. I have been having problems with the maps from Chris since the very start of January 08. I should have things resolved by now.

The car has zero problems on the subaru factory tune or any cobb map. The only time the car has had any issues at all is with the maps Chris made. I flashed to a cobb stage 1 around 2000 miles on the car and ran the 1.03 map and the 1.4 map with zero problems. What I experienced when starting the car after short stops is alot more serious than a simple missfire. I guess you would have to see it happen first hand to understand it is definently more than a missfire when it happens.
I want to mention I do talk from experience with engines and tuning as I have over the years built serveral motorcycle engines for street and racing use. I do understand bikes and cars are alot different I just want everyone to understand im not speaking without knowledge.

I considered the fact I might get some who think im trying to cause trouble before even posting this. I was uncomfortable starting this thread due to that fact. Im sure most people Chris has tuned have been happy. I made this topic only because I am very unhappy, spent a great deal of money, time and am disapointed. I surely think most who have had the issues I went through would feel the same.

When was your last email to Chris and how long has it been since he hasn't responded?

I say this only because I know he is on the road doing tuning in NJ as I type this. He is a pretty busy (and stand up) guy but I'm sure he'll get it resolved.

Sorry to hear about your frustrations tho. I would be upset at this point too but it's not like you absolutely have to use his map. For now I would revert to the Cobb OTS map until he can get back to you with a new one.

The last email I got from Chris was 4-8 I have sent 3 emails since with the last one being this past weekend. I am currently using the cobb map.

Slack? The maps he send didn't fix the problem. The OP has done what he needs to do. He got waste of time and money.

Friends and family of Chris would always be on his side. I totally understand that. If you really a friend then maybe you should tell him to help out the OP.

If there's anything wrong with the car that he can't tune in the first place, he shouldn't tune and take his money.

To the OP, always try to go to the closest. Some far tuners would just hope you'll go away because you're too far.

Why don't you just call XX and schedule a retune? It's probably not that easy for him to straighten this out through the email and if you're there face to face with him you'll be able to better explain, or better yet, show him the problem. Everyone makes mistakes and it's probably something simple.

I wish I could just drive to CT unfortunatly its a 9-10 hour round trip drive. Im sure many have traveled some distance to get a tune from a reputable tuner. I guess I never expected or thought I might have a problem with a stock stage 1 tune.

I'm sure Chris will resolve this, I'd imagine he would have responded to this thread if he was around.

Chris is one of the best tuners in the east coast for subys.. I've had my stage 1, stage 2, stage 3 and stage 4 tunes all done by him.. he has helped me sort out a **** load of problems with my car which were created by other tuners/shops...

Give him some time, he will get back to you. These problems come up, especially if ur using LC and FFS, which subaru's are not designed to do in the first place. If you want these features, you should prepare yourself for the upcoming issues that these features bring out.

Best bet would be to go back to XX for a fixup. I'm sure he will give you a good deal if the problems are associated with the tune..

Sorry I missed this, somebody actually directed me to it.

There is honestly no excuse for the problems you are having, but I will say I have not received a single email from you except for the last one I replied to. Most know that I do get back to people in a reasonable amount of time, but this is an exceptionally busy time for me, so I do not have the time on the forums like I do in the slower months.

In saying that, I'd like to work with you.. But from what I am reading, and the the maps I have sent you, it's hard for me fix your problems on the car without having the car here. I can honestly say you should not be experiencing the issues you are having unless some dynamic has changed. I know it's difficult for you to come to the shop because of the distance you have traveled, but at the same time, I really don't want to make changes to a car that I can't physically work on, especially big changes.

Feel free to send me an email to my new address chris @ efilogics.com - I'll try to work with you to get your car running up to speed again. And just so we are clear, no hard feelings about the post, although I didn't receive your emails, I can understand your frustration with the car..

Take care,

Chris

P.S. - Thanks for the kind words guys.
