| I got an internet tune from Keith (I'm on the other side of the planet in the Czech Republic) ... he has done more than the service promised, can't rate Keith high enough. No problems, minus email communication issues before ... but those seem to be sorted now (and I know he has a life and business to run, so I may get a reply in 2 business days, just like any other business). Not to mention, he has answered a million stupid questions from me too. Here is my "Stage 2" STi tuned by Keith in action 2 weeks ago -- pulls nice and hard for an almost stock STi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XABNBf7KUg

Keith and Mary are Rad!!!!. My car has been in their care for a while. So far his Dyno software shows 411hp. Keith has been nothing but helpful during the build of this car. He installed the engine and has fixed some broken bits in the past few months. We are going to bigger injectors and a ported intake manifold and adding water/meth in the next couple of weeks. I'll post results after that. Oh, does anyone want a dog??? Call Keith he'll tell you about her. Thanks, Keith and Mary For reels. -B Last edited by Chemistry Set; 05-11-2009 at 03:59 PM.

My relationship with Keith and Mary began several months ago. Keith was in town to do some tunes, and I wanted to be protuned and take the AP V2 out that I was using at the time. My car was flashed at Stage 2 with the Ap, and I could not get past 11-12psi, which I thought was normal. Keith started by unmarrying the AP, and flashing the car with one of his maps. We then went to do the road tune, and got my car to 13psi. This was when we found out my boost issue was the OE BCS malfunctioning. We gave up at this point, and I asked Keith what I owed him for the 'tune', and he replied with a " Pay me when it's fixed"! I was floored. It was then I realized the kind of person he is - genuinely good, patient, and just down to earth. It was a few months later when I had completed my turbo upgrade parts collection, and Keith was in town again to do some more tunes. A few friends helped with the installation of the parts while Keith was at his day-long tuning session at another location, where he left and drove to the other side of town to complete my tune at midnight. That's when we settled my bill. I have since bought Grimmspeed parts from him, and we are working on other items. I'm also a big fan of Mary!!! Bigup AWDtuning.com.

Well I was tuned by Keith about a year ago, on his first Austin Tuning trip. He has tuned my car multiple times, on every step I have taken with it. I will continue to take it to Keith on every future step I take. I have received nothing but the best from AWDtuning from parts to tuning to dumb questions, to oh ya good times! Thanks Keith and Mary!

I do not see how it can be possible to think of Keith Fields as a bad person or someone that does not care about his customers after my many encounters with him. My review is very long because it starts when I first met him, and is pretty in depth. It is well worth the time that it will take to read however. Skip down past 4 paragraphs to skip the background info with my other tuners and to get right to Keith’s review. When I first drove my 07 STi off the dealership lot in May 2007 it already had the notorious 07 STi stock tune issue (garbage tune). The car ran terribly and suffered violent hesitations around 4k rpms. I immediately purchased a Cobb AP V2 and flashed it to stage 1 so I could actually drive the car unlike some people who immediately returned their recently purchased STis back to the dealership. A few months later I had all my parts installed that I needed and was ready to get a tune from Ed @ Equilibrium tuning. This tune was being done a few days before my car was getting shipped out to Texas (Late July 2007). I got the protune done on CA 91 octane and the car felt awesome. My mods at that time were a turboback exhaust, short ram intake, 38mm EWG, and a fuel pump. I was satisfied and my car was shipped out to Texas the next week. The one thing I was worried about was the lack of 91 octane in Dallas, and the drastic difference between the wonderful Texas 93 octane and the terrible CA 91 octane. When I first met with Ed I alerted him of this and he said, “If anything it should actually help a bit.” Once he told me this I felt comfortable getting tuned and we got everything worked out. A few weeks later I was in Dallas and had filled up with the 93 octane. The car felt fine for a week or two. I barely hit boost at all because I was not driving much and if I did it was in rush hour traffic. The car started to feel hesitant and like it was pulling timing across the board. I spoke to Ed and he told me to reset the ECU so it can get used to the new gas and see if that worked. It didn’t. A short while later I was getting CELs whenever I would drive, even without hitting boost. The CELs were due to misfires in at least 2 cylinders. I was very upset at this point because this car is my daily driver and I have no other means of getting around. I called Ed but it was very hard to get a hold of him for a few weeks. When I finally did get a hold of him he did not have that much help for me. I mean there is not that much he really could do since he was in CA and I was in TX. He told me to talk to Neil at Subaru of Plano because he had been working with him doing some remote tunes and he said that I would be able to do a pull with Neil and then he would send the datalog back to Ed to look at. I called Neil who was very busy and he said he would call me back. He never did. I waited a few days and decided to give him a ring again to remind him of my situation but I could not get through to him, I believe I either left him a message or spoke to him again and he once again told me he would get back to me and he never did. I tried getting a hold of Ed and it was a struggle. At one point I called Ed and he did not pick up. He then called me on his other line to see who it was and after I answered he hung up. I was furious at this point and realized that there was a very definite chance that I would not be fixing this problem with Ed’s help. The car was running worse and worse by the week and after a few months I decided to give up on Ed. Unfortunately, there are not that many places in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that deal with or tune Subarus. I found one place, Gotham Racing, who told me something along the lines of it being 600 dollars to use their dyno and 300 an hour for tuning. All I needed was a few tweaks to the map and this was just plain ridiculous so I obviously disregarded Gotham Racing as an option. I could not find anywhere else in Dallas at this point in time to help me. I posted up on Nasioc and explained my problems and wanted to see if anyone knew of a place that could tune me. This is when I first heard from Keith. He wrote in my thread that he could tune me as he had been tuning on the side for some time now. I was skeptical at this point but I really had no other options. I set up an appointment and drove all the way out to the middle of nowhere to have him help me. Also, this was also the first time I had really even heard of Opensource tuning. (Again, skeptical). Not only had I never heard of Keith but no one else really had either. I saw myself as a guinea pig since a few people had actually PMd me asking me to let them know how my tuning experience went after it was over so they could base their decisions on my experience. I have met several people in the Subaru community (as well as others) that have mods on their car but really do not know much about how certain things work. Many of them have never even heard of being “tuned” for their parts before. Before I purchased my Subaru I had actually been protuned before, by several different tuners with my RSX via Hondata Kpro and was familiar with how everything went during a tuning session. I had been road tuned before as well as dyno tuned at DynoSpot Racing in San Jose, CA. I had dealt with several shops before and also knew how most shops conduct business and despite my age, felt that I knew a good amount about the tuning scene. (Ex: that a full protune would not take 15 minutes and should require several revisions). That aside lets get down to my first experience with Keith. When I first talked to him I told him my problems and he got right to work at trying to figure out what was causing them. We went out tuning and it was very obvious after some pulls that my car was in EXTREMELY poor shape. Keith tried several different ways to find the cause of the problem and after an hour or two we still could not figure it out. There was a weird noise being produced by the car that we could not figure out either. It was not an Uppipe or exhaust leak or anything like that however. Long story short, about 7+ hours later we decided to call it a night and that I would come back the next day to finish up. I was really worried about Keith charging me for all 7+ hours, especially when we could not figure out what the problem was. When we got back to his garage and he was taking off the 02 sensor out of my downpipe I noticed one of the causes of my biggest problem. It was an extremely well hidden vacuum leak from the TMIC to the TB. It was completely sealed on the top but on the bottom there was a tiny portion that was exposed. I felt like an idiot but it would have been impossible to spot unless you really got down in there and I was just looking around. I came back the next day thankful that with that out of the way we could finally start tuning and get my car back into good shape. I was also worried that me driving my car (with no other choice) for several months with the car running like **** had hurt my motor, when my car was only a few months old. The next day I went back to Keith’s place and he was able to tune my car and get it running great. He spent several hours getting the tuned dialed in perfectly, as I would expect from a good tuner. He took his time to make sure everything was right, unlike some tuners who spend 15 minutes on a tune and expect you to believe that it is the best that it can be. Another thing Keith did that was different than other tuners was answer all 1,836 of my questions. Instead of just telling me what he was changing when I asked, he explained why he was changing it and what it would do differently. He explained everything that I asked and I was really impressed. It was not a completely quiet 3-4 hour tuning session like I had been on before with other tuners. Keith was really nice and extraordinarily helpful. Also, he explained how he did not tune by adding a ridiculous amount of timing and achieving high whp numbers this way. He tunes in a nice, conservative and safe manner. He gave me excellent drivability, power, and safety. When everything was said and done, he only charged me for 2 hours of tuning which was already a very low amount. I was extremely happy and based on my experience with prior tuners and shops could definitely recommend him to other people that had asked about his work. I could not have had a better first experience with Keith, and it was the first of many. In Dallas I live in an apartment where I am not allowed to work on my car. My apartment was very strict about this and this bothered me because I hate paying shops to install something for me that I can easily do myself. An offer came up for me to trade exhausts plus cash with another member but the only problem was he lived on the complete other side of the metroplex from me. Since I had school till 5 every day the only time I could really meet up with him was after this time and during rush hour that would have taken several hours. I did not feel it was worth it to spend all that money on gas and waste all that time just to swap out catbacks. I made a thread on Nasioc asking if anyone in the middle could let us use their place to swap catbacks out and how it would only take 30 minutes and we would even buy them beeer/lunch/whatever for using their space. Keith had no hesitation in offering his place to us. I accepted his offer and he let us do it over there. He was working on another car but had no problem with me using his garage space while I did this. He even helped me a bit (since Danyo forgot to mention he had polyurethane bushings which were a HUGE ***** to get off ). I asked Keith if he wanted anything for me taking up his garage space and his time but he said no. He was very nice as usual and I went on my way. My second time getting tuned by Keith (if I remember right) was when I was getting some injectors installed by him. I had him install them for me and he did this and the tune for a ridiculously low price. I had just as good of an experience as I had before and was very impressed with Keith’s work ethic and how nice he was. I honestly don’t think I had ever met someone as nice and laid back as Keith was. It was actually a bad thing because I felt like people were going to take advantage of this. Also, the prices he was charging were way too low. They were so low that I could easily see him actually losing money quickly because he would go above and beyond what was needed to make the customer feel happy. I forgot to mention that we actually decided to go back to the stock airbox to get my A/F ratios a little more controllable. I did not have all the pieces of my airbox so Keith offered to give me his to use, as well as his K&N panel filter. He did not ask for any money for this which once again surprised me. At around this point I believe the relationship between Keith and I was starting to move from Tuner/Customer to good friends. Several times he had let me come over to his house to install parts myself without asking for any money, even when I offered it to him. I even think he had had me over for a few times just to hang out, work on cars, and have dinner with his wife and daughter. Once again, I had bought more parts for my car and installed my front mount at his house. While my friends and I were installing the front mount he was cutting up the bumper to get it to fit. He had spent a good while doing this and cut it perfectly. Big surprise, he did not ask for any money in doing this even though it took him at least an hour to grind all the bumper off and get it to sit perfectly flush with the front mount. We went out tuning after and my car made awesome power and was finally a blast to drive. All of this had happened in a few short months between the start of 2008 and May 2008. In those few short months I had Keith tune my car several times, used his garage for my own personal use, and had come over just to hang out while he was tuning some of my friend’s cars. I also was lucky enough to trade him interiors for his all black WRX interior, and he took my 07 TR interior. I’m sure there were several other experiences that I had with him but this was over a year ago, so I know I am probably forgetting several things. Now onto this year, which even though I didn’t think it would be possible, opened up my eyes once again to how incredible of a tuner and friend Keith could be. I had brought my car back home for the summer and installed some new parts. One of these was a Blouch Dom 3 turbo. Basically, Blouch/ATP Turbo gave me the wrong information several times and told me to install a fitting between the block and the oil line that was not supposed to be installed there, ever, on any car. But that is for another 5 page essay on how their false information caused my motor to blow. Long story short regarding that situation is that my oil pump was fuxored after lots of metal shavings basically clogged it up. I was on my way to Keith’s house to tighten my motor mounts as well as a few random other parts when my car started to feel very very heavy. I looked at my oil pressure gauge and it did not go above 1 bar when I was at WOT. The car started slowing down more and more and then I heard the dreaded rod knock. I was able to pull off the freeway and stop in a CVS parking lot and turn off my car. It would not start again because I had fully spun the bearing on my crankshaft. I did not know what to do, because at this point I had extensive debt due to previous motor issues, and I had no car to drive to school when I was neck deep in work in my Junior year of college. I called Keith and his wife drove to pick me up at the CVS. Keith offered to let me tow my car to his house and let me park it in his garage which meant that he had to sacrifice one of his cars from being parked in there. I was extremely upset but there was basically nothing that I could do except start pulling the motor. Unfortunately, this happened at the worst time possible because I had no time to work on my car because I had so much work to do. This coupled with the fact that I had no way of getting to school was devastating. To my surprise, Keith offered his car to me to get around. I was astonished that he would do this because this meant that he had NO CAR FOR HIMSELF to get around in. He had to share his wife’s car just so that I could have a car to get around in. I couldn’t begin to describe how thankful I was of this, I just couldn’t believe he would do something like that for me. I pulled my motor at his house and both Keith and his wife knew that I was very low on money for myself and cooked dinner for me several times. Thinking back on this, I realize that without Keith and his wife I would have had NOWHERE to go, nowhere to work on my car, no way of getting around, nothing. Without them I 100% do not see myself being able to have kept the STi after my motor blew. I would have been SOL and had to have sold it. To this day I still owe them a considerable debt for doing this for me which I have not even come close to repaying them for. I have no idea what I would have done without them. Finally my motor came back from Rynomoto who helped me out considerably on getting it put back together. I went home to CA for a month and came back to have the same exact thing happen again, this time for different reasons. They were not tune related but were oil related which I would be happy to explain through PMs. A poorly designed “catch can” and not air to oil separator was one of the main culprits. By this time Keith now had an actual shop and let me pull my motor out again at his shop. He helped me out with random things and especially putting it back in. I am sure I am leaving a lot of information out at this point because I have been writing this for so long and I am getting tired but basically, once again, Keith went above and beyond to help me out. I can’t thank him enough for doing all that for me. Not only that, but he and his wife also found some work for me to do because they knew I was so down on money, especially after this much crap with my motor. Keith and his wife helped me out when I was down, and did everything they could to help me out. They sacrificed for me. They shared a car so that I could be able to drive and get to school. I don’t care what anyone says but this is not just an ordinary tuner. This is not a tuner out to make money off of people, this is a person who wants to help other people. Even now his prices are still very competitive and he is not even making money half the time because of what he does for the community. I think only a few people know that he is actually losing money if anything, or at least he is not making lots of money doing what he does. Anyone who has actually dealt with Keith can easily see how good of a person he is along with how good of a tuner he is. I can honestly say that Keith is one of the best people I have ever met in my entire life. He is such a good person, a good friend, and a good tuner. I don’t see very many other people or tuners ever doing things like this, and the best part is that this story will not surprise any of his customers. They are used to things like this because many of them have been helped out just as much as I have. I could go on for 5 more pages about my experiences with him but I believe this should be fine for now. I have been meaning to write this for a long time but have never gotten around to it. It is easy for people who have not dealt with him to say whatever they want online, but he really does look out for his customers and goes above and beyond trying to make them happy.
