Talking ProTuned by John @ Precision Tuning

My car finally runs the way a protuned car should. Runs perfect. Wanted to thank John at PrecionTuning for doing such a great job at tuning my car. I brought the car to him running like crap. Driveabilty now is excellent with no stutters or hesitation and pulls like a mofo. I couldn't be happier. Rich(owner of Precision Tuning) don't let John leave. He is the type of tuner that every shop is looking for. Knows his stuff, explains it to customer thoroughly, exactly what he is doing and why. When I explained to Rich the problems I had with my last tuner(blown turbo, running lean, hesitation etc.) he went ahead and did a compression and leakdown test. Thankfully, motor is still healthy and John went ahead and did his magic. Did I mention my car runs PERFECT!! Now, let me go correct my power bragging thread to update for my higher #'s and better running car with a better tuner.

Final #'s are 320whp and 353wtq on 93 pump using VF39. Typical stock STi is 225whp there. This dyno reads low for a dynojet, almost mustang dyno #'s.
mods are--
tgv delete
DW 650cc inj.-scaled properly now
aps inlet
txs intake
txs catless tbe w/rfl
P&L motorsports ewg kit/44mm tial dumping to atmos.
prodrive boost solenoid
walbro pump
AP.V2

stock headers,turbo, and intercooler.

NeverEnd...-

Thanks for the kind words. Your car was a pleasure to tune, and your ok too I guess...LOL

The car came into the shop running very lean, IMO, for a daily driver on pump...12.0 - 12.1 in some spots. The boost was sitting at 20psi for the base run.
We rectified both of those issues, the main driveability issue was an improperly scaled MAF, that led to lean/rich spots during cruise/part-throttle that can cause bucking... which we addressed. The injectors looked like PE 850's, but they are not... and they were scaled with the PE latency value(this was the injector problem as described)

**Keep in mind guys, the PE Injector scale and latency values on their site are tested at 12 volts ans you need to add 10% more flow in the scalar***

I tuned the car at 21.5 PSI and at an 11.2AFR. The Prodrive solenoid is more sensitive...20% values in the max WGDC table,is about where we sit to get the 21.5 psi.... if your tuner knows the stock system for boost control, this is a pretty good piece. The the car liked the extra fuel for pump 93 octane. I had suggested we could squeeze a little more HP out of it, but we decided to wait until meth and a clutch install soon...OH YEA!! On the road this car hauls!

The timing is relatively conservative as well. If I remember correctly...14 at peak torque, building up to the low/mid 20's as the boost tapers off and the load decreases. I always try to show the client the final data log so he/she can really see how the tables all pull together and see that the car is running perfectly, no knock present, and the DA values are all consistent. Sorry for the long reply, just wanted to add some specifics to the story. Should anyone have any questions, feel free to post or shoot me a PM.

-John

See you in the spring John. Hopefully Cobb will straighten out the LC and FFS tables so I can flat shift. God I wanna flat shift this thing. I'll hit you and Rich up then. Take it easy and thanks again.

Eric

Thats right, we had the dyno for some time now though we didn't install it until we moved into our new building back in Nov 1st.

I've met Rich personally, and I'd like to say he's a great guy (so are the rest of his crew @ Precision). He seems to be very helpful and patient to explain the ins and out of modding your STI. The new shop looks pretty good too. I cant see what magic John can do on my STI. Be assured I will be chiming back in after my dyno tune.

I can't wait to get my car tuned at Precision. How much did he charge you for the compression and leakdown test?
