Default What do you think of Hydra EMS ?

Hey guys, has anyone ever used Hydra EMS ? pros- cons? In terms of software user interface.. full control managment of fuel, idle, performance stability? persuming going wild on the motor switching to cosworth engine performance internals and bigger turbo kit on the STI .. any thoughts ?

with all due respect, that kind of "i once heard from a little birdie" level of technical reporting is why people should believe absolutely nothing of what they hear in here.

there is no downside to hydra other than losing your odb2 port and cruise control. it offers many advantages for a big power project, including the ability to run another set of injectors for methanol injection. if you add the accessory harness you have flat footed shifting, launch control and antilag. i have the older version with the sequential firing. the latest version batch fires.

i don't give a rat's ass who your birdie is. it's still worthless second hand info in the format you provided it.

I run the Nemesis 2.5 on a built block, Phil tuned, and love it. No driveabity problems whatsoever, but a whole lot of smooth power. I definitely give the Hydra, and Phil, two thumbs up. I called MZM a week ago, because I'm in Tx for the time being, and asked about tuning my Hydra to run on e-85. Nice enough guys, and I can confirm they won't tune it, but did not say why (or bad mouth it). Fwiw.

I've had the Hydra for almost 2 years now and it's amazing. never any problems and the car runs very smooth.

+1 for Phil@Element Tuning. That is the only vendor you should buy the Hydra from. You will get an awesome base map and great support.

You dont.

Or you put your cats back on if they're off, then put in your stock ecu and flash it for your mods to get the car running out of boost. You should pass the sniffer.

I ran the hydra for a long time on my Sti and loved it completely. It was an older version so I'm sure the new one is even better.

Get a competent tuner who has lots of experience with hydra, that's the #1 thing with hydra IMO. If I did it again go phil or go home.

put most of my car back to stock and put the stock ecu back in. takes me about a days worth of work every couple of years. worth it considering how much better my car runs with the Hydra (built 2.5, 1000cc injectors, 35R, etc..)

Here in this part of Texas they don't do emissions testing, so no obd2 hook up. Moving to DC area in a month, wife's in the Air Force so I'll keep it registered in Texas, and no testing (I believe!).

I have a Scott Siegel tuned Hydra version 2.5 with revision 15. My car is perfect in every way. Much smoother than my Ecutek tunes ever were with a standalone boost controller. Only down side to me is losing cruise control.
I remember reading way back when, about some DBW throttles getting stuck on WOT before they totally did away with having CC on the Hydra. But I haven't heard of a single case since. You should contact Phil @ Element Tuning. He will answer any question that you have.
