Thumbs up Equilibrium Tuning (EQ Tuning)

Hello, I just had my car tuned by Ed @ EQ tuning and its running great! Ive been tuned by a few others with my old wrx and Ed has been by far the best tuning experience Ive had and very worthy of a good review... heres how it went down:

After we met first thing he did was check under the hood and make sure every thing was ship shape, checking for boost leaks and such. Next he hooked up his gear, laptop to the ecu and wide band through the backseat and to the tailpipe. He tuned it for about 2.5 - 3 hours and we did a bunch of pulls on the open road. A few 2nd gear pulls, a few 3rd gear pulls, a bunch of 4th gear pulls and a few 1,2,3,4 pulls. It was awesome to feel the car change after each pull and mind boggling to look at his laptop when he messed with the ecu tables and graphs!

What impressed me the most was that he even tuned out the shift knock! In case you dont know what shift knock is (I didnt) its when you are slamming gears real fast and in between shifts there is a slight lag or hesitation when you floor it. You may have felt that if you're going through the gears real fast. I always thought that was just the way AWD was but he was able to tune it out! So now the car just rips as fast as you can shift, its just amazing to blaze throught the gears and get pushed back into the seat through each shift! AFAIK you cant tune that out on a real dyno, I think thats why the cars he tunes run the 1/4 so fast (he tuned the fastest stock turbo STi in the 1/4 btw).

Plus being out on the open road is the best for the intercooler and throttle response. The only downside is that he is REALLY busy so you may have to be patient...but its definitely worth waiting for!

Anyways...here is my car. Stock STi's run 215-225whp on his road dyno software (Yes, he made his own road dyno software!?! That just goes to show his smarts and skills!).

2004 STi
Mods:
TurboXS turbo back with cat and standard muffler
APS turbo inlet hose
APS TGV deletes
Walbro fuel pump
SPT heat shield & trimmed stock shield
SPT radiator shroud

APV1 EQ custom road tune, CA 91 octane.

294 tq @ 4050 rpm
272 hp @ 5930 rpm

Thanks Ed, car pulls real hard and is very smooth, Im stoked!

I have an '07 STI Limited that was pro tuned by Ed @ EQ Tuning (at 4500 miles).

The only power enhancing mod on the car is a catted 3" APS TBE (plus the Cobb Access Port).

Peak #s, 91 octane CA gas
283.8whp @ 5890rpm
303.7 ft lbs @3660rpm

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm glad you're all enjoying your cars and your new found power .

As far as the 07's, I think part of the reason they tend to make more power on a dyno is because the test gear (4th) is significantly taller than the 4th gear in the previous years. As a general rule, the parasitic drivetrain losses are less in taller gears. I don't think this explains all of the gains, but it does account for a significant part of it.

Thanks
-- Ed

is that shift knock you speak of when you the car kinda bucks just a little when shifting hard especially from first to second? I have never experienced this before and I thought it was an AWD thing too.

Shift knock feels like a hesitation in power after a hard shift. In 04-06 STI's it feels almost like lag but boost actually comes up quickly. Its just a drop in timing for about a second and then a surge of power as the ECU gives the timing back. In the 07 STI's its not as noticeable because the ECU gives the timing back much slower. So when you encounter shift knock, there is a general loss of power through the rest of the gear.
