Just lookaround and spot them. soon enough the heatshield will come off. Now you should see the top part of the downpipe. Spray it down with some kind of lubricant so you dont strip or seize a bolt. Theres 2 14mm bolts and 3 14mm nuts that hold the dowpipe to the turbo. If you can get your hands in there, you can undo them all from the top...if not, you'll just undo them from the bottom. once youve done all you can do on the top, go underneath and un bolt it from the midpipe. 2 14mm bolts and nuts hold them together. Unplug your o2 sensor which you will later remove with o2 sensor tool, or a proper sized wrench. There is one more 14mm bolt that holds the downpipe to the tranny crossmember. Take it and give the tab a lil push to get the dp clear. It should come out once thats down and install the new dp in reverse order. Hope that helps ya out. Will

These are great instructions! I replaced my downpipe and exhaust in about 4 hours without taking the intercooler off following these.
Thanks alot, this is all you need

No need to remove the IC, that's just extra work. You WILL need a breaker bar, or as we call it, a "B**** Bar," and some anti-seize would help. Don't be surprised if you snap a bolt, I did. You may wan't to buy an extra one before hand just in case. Make sure you use the proper gaskets and/or Permatex ULTRA COPPER Hi-Temp RTV Silicone Gasket if needed. That's my tip for the day.

yeah that. If you don't have an angle grinder to cut the heat shield, you can get by with a metal hand saw, tin snips, and a file.

Bringing this one back from the dead...

I want to install my DP and a Heat Shield. Do I need to remove the IC to install a Cobb Heat Shield?

I originally was not going to remove the intercooler, but after I removed all the bolts on the stock heat shield, I couldn't pull it out without removing the intercooler. I think it makes the install of the DP much easier with the IC off.

I didn't but it was a pain in the ass to get the cobb heat shield on just putting the heat shield on took almost a half hour and it's only 3 bolts

Yeah I was thinking about taking the stocker off. Taking the car in to get the DP put on (I don't want to have to try to do it my self with out a lift or ramps of any kind in Wi weather) and then after getting the dp on, installing the shield. Is that possible?

I think steelgray answered your question.

If you can't do it with the IC on, then just take it off.

I have no experience with that DP, but if you had to remove the bottom heat shield I would look into possibly wrapping your DP or finding out if there is one made to fit with the turboxs DP.

its wrapped, just wondering if anyone with the same dp put back their lower heatshield. is it necessary to have the bottom bracket? im keeping the stock heatshield and going with an aftermarket one that fits.
