Default Exhaust removal help

Hope this is in the right section, but yesterday I noticed that the bracket/piece of metal holding my left exhaust hanger seemed to have been completely bent around so that you can't get to the bolt to remove the hanger. It's also causing my left hanger to sit in a rather stretched position. The bolt itself looks as if it's also been bent. I spent two hours trying to bend the metal so that I could remove the bolt, no luck.

Was this done by my dealership so that I couldn't remove my exhaust? Or is this a manufacturing slip-up on Subaru's behalf?

Hope that helps. As you can see, I was unable to bend the metal back at all.

I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to sit like that, I'll snap a pic on my car and compare it. That's the hanger on the left (looking at the car from behind) right?

Yeah, definitely not supposed to be like that.
You should still be able to unhook the muffler though. If you detach the muffler section from the midpipe and unhook the right exhaust hanger, that should give you enough leverage to twist the muffler off that bent hanger.
That is weird though... considering where it is, that had to have been shop damage. Unless, you got really unlucky with a rock or something...?

(ps. this should be either in Requests or Engine/Power/Performance )

Is that how you get the muffler off of the hangers; you have to detach it at the mid-pipe and pull it to the side to make the hangers pop off? I recently purchased the Kartboy solid exhaust hangers, and can't for the life of me figure out how to get the old ones off and the new ones on.

It might be worthwhile to get another bracket from the dealer. Then you can unbolt and/cut away the bent bracket to the point where you can get it all removed.

Then install the new bracket.

No it is not supposed to look like that. It is not bent around either, it is just severely torqued to the side. This is what happens when someone who doesn't know what they are doing attempts to loosen a WIELDED NUT with a socket wrench. You can see where the nut is slightly rounded off. They are supposed to remove the bolt for the hanger from the bolt head. Since it wasn't you, it could've been the dealership, but why would they be attacking the exhaust hanger mount??

^^What he said. Try to locate a new hanger. It seems like you should still be able to remove the bolt by attacking it from the other (correct) side. Take it out, take the exhaust off, bend open the hanger so u can get to the bolt where it is attached to the car. Remove and replace the hanger.

EDIT: Err damn I didn't notice how old this thread was since I usually hit "New Posts"... dude who keeps bumping these? Good info still I guess...

Yes, if you have the axleback portion detached, the best way is to next unbolt the hanger from that mount. Remember not to try to loosen the nut because it is wielded on, otherwise you will twist the mount and it'll look like the one in that picture. The bolt should come out easy. The hanger will now be free and you can drop the left side of your axleback, making it much easier to slide out the other side.

So the only option is to have the axle back detached? I appreciate your help. Going by what I read here, the process sounds like it goes like this:
1) Unbolt muffler at mid pipe
2) Pull to the side to pop off of each hanger
3) Unbolt piece hanger is attached to on the car
4) Back mount out through the hole in the hanger. Correct?
