Default Header and up pipe install

I have the GT spec gen II headers with the up pipe. How long will it take to remove and replace these parts? I just want some prices on what my tuner should be charging me.....thanks

I did the MadDad header + uppipe combo (same basic thing) and it took ~4 hours at a friend's shop w/ a lift. He had done a few uppipes before so it went pretty quick. When we removed it a week later it took even less time.

Not sure what you shop charges but figure 3-4 hours.

garage tunning charges about $2XX for both. the header is not that expensive the up-pipe is.because some people can't install the up-pipe without a lift.i did my without lifting the motor.

Do you need any special tools or is there anything I need to know and watch out for, before hand? How about installing the O2 sensors in the new header? Do I need to use some kind of thread tape or pipe dope or something? I would be fraid that something like that will end up in the turbo. Also, I had the uppipe done on my last car, which was a WRX and they lifted the engine to get it in. Is that because the exhaust manifold was taken out? I am installing a header/uppipe combo. ANY tips you guys can give will be MUCH appreciated.

You just need an O2 sensor socket for $10 from sears/advance auto/etc. I did my APS header/uppipe just using ramps in my garage...it's cake. Just remember to soak all of the bolts with PB Blaster first.

The header uppipe is fairly easy to do. You will have to remove the turbo at the same time. Which add the DP too.

It should take about 2-3 hours with no lifts, and if you have the proper tools it should be ok too.

For the headers,
Loose the bolts that go to the cylinder heads (14mm - 6 total), then the 2 bolts that go from the header to the uppipe 14mm. Remove header after all bolts are loose.

Then remove DP, and proceed to remove the turbo.
Use this on how to remove the turbo
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1072836

After that, you should be able to fish the uppipe out from the top.

then reverse everythning for installation of new header and uppipe. Make sure to ahve new gaskets for everything, including the turbo-DP too. As well at the Uppipe and headers.

I noticed you said the turbo needs to be removed. Why is that? with the header removed can't the up-pipe be pulled down rather than up after it's unbolted from the turbo?

Correctomondo!!! you can do it either way. For clearance issues atleast.

soak everything in PB blaster
unbolt the downpipe and remove it
take off pass wheel and remove the o2 sensor
remove header
jack up engine a few inches
drop the uppipe out from the bottom

It's pretty straightforward. I've done it multiple times and have never removed the turbo.

Give yourself about 6 hours the first time you do it. The next time will be about 3-4 hours. The next time will be 3 at most.

Remember, doing all of this the first time is a bear because of the factory shields. I'm still baffled when I hear people thinking this job is a pain... but then I remember, I haven't had all those up/dp/manifold shields on my car for a few years.

I have a new header (DCsports which is a stock setup so no U.P. removal needed) and I'm scheduling about 30 minutes of my time on monday morning to do it on ramps in my driveway. My undertray is already off though.

Once you have aftermarket pipes, it all get easier. Bellmouth DPs take up a lot of wrench-room though.

If you are installing a one piece header/up-pipe like the GPmoto, get the really tall jack stands. You'll need the ground clearance to twist-n-fish the whole unit up in there. Seperate header/units can be installed with regular short jackstands.

That's exactly what I have. GPmoto header. I will be doing a Helix catted DP and Samco turbo inlet at the same time too. Already have a Bosal cat-back and Typhoon intake. Oh and can't forget the stainless braided clutch line, since I'm going to be right there anyway. I hope to have a whole weekend free to do it.

After having to do it six times due to being sent a faulty COBB uppipe,

I got it down to about 1.5 hours with slow torquing of everything... if I used the "feel method" I'm sure I could do it in 1 hour.
