Default Inquiry On-How-To-DIY-Install a TBE .

Well, I did a search and nothing found related On How-To-Install your own TBE, just the exhaust muffler but, no full TBE. In this case, I am looking for people who have installed the APS 3" TBE kit by themselves. Does anybody knows how hard it is and how long it takes for a slightly mechanically inclined person to install one of these? Granted, I am no greasemonkey but many of you like myself would like to know or be educated. Thanks.

Sure thing, first off you need ramps and a set of sockets ( cant recall what specific size ). First thing you have to take out is the OEM CB, then start taking the heatshield off the stock DP.
Dont break the bolts! lol

It's a start. Thanks Insane.

I think If I end up doing it myself I will have to document it with pics and post here later.

I believe there is a good thread on scoobymods. I can't access the site at work though. I followed that just to make sure i was doing it right. Even though my exhaust is different then the one they were installing it still have bolts in the same places for the stock one to come off.

Should give you the basic ideas.

I'm going to be installing the APS this weekend, I would take photos but I already have the TXS exhaust on there and not the stock one so I'm not sure how good of a write up it will be.

Did you already trim the 5mm off of the APS turbo outlet? If not I would recommend doing that ahead of time. It took me a little while to do that mainly since I kept breaking Dremel cutoff wheels and the Dremel started to overheat.

To remove the intercooler: Intercooler removal / Throttle body hose install

Use PB Blaster! It's your friend.

You don't need to remove the intercooler.

You can reach the bottom bolts from underneath the car and you can reach the ones on the side without having to take the intercooler off.

Yes PB blaster is your friend, give them a good soak the night before.

I used scoobymods directions as well. It's an FXT, but for the most part it's accurate. If you take the I/C off, remove the bolts on the BPV and let it hang by the hose - on the FXT I think he slides the hose off or something, but it was damn near impossible on the STi so I didn't bother.

I have a few pics in my journal too, check the link in my sig.

its pretty self explanatory...
1) Take off intercooler for easier access (keep in mind putting it back can be a little harder)
2) PB the bolts on the heat shield and downpipe to turbo
3) Drink some coffee
4) Undo the bolts on the heatshield
5) Undo the bolts on the downpipe
6) Undo the bolts connecting the downpipe to the midpipe
7) make sure you disconnect the O2 sensor before removing the DP
8) Remove the catback from the hangers
9) Proceed to removing the DP from its position (slowly)
10) Take a break
11) Connect the DP to the turbo (dont tighten the bolts yet)
12) Connect the midpipe to the DP
13) Connect the catback to the midpipe
14) Hang the catback on the hangers and line up everything
15) Start by tightening from the back of the car so you know the rest lines up before tightening up the DP bolts
16) Then tigthen the DP bolts and put on the new heatshield(if you have a new one, if you dont they gut the OEM heatshield so it will fit)
17) Make sure everything is tightened(DONT STRIP THE BOLT) and everything is lined up
18) Reinstall the intercooler
19) Recheck everything then fire her up

...hope this helps and please feel free to correct me if i missed something guys

So, removing the IC makes it easy? How about it without removing it?
Thanks guys.
Yes, I will use PB Blaster.

I removed the stock exhaust and installed my APS R1 with the tmic on when I first put it on. A month ago I did a clutch install and had to remove the tmic as part of the process. During assembly I put the APS on while the tmic was off and I did not notice any difference in difficulty. If you think that it will make it easier then do it, but remember that it sucks to put it back on for the first time.

Youre going to want to remove the intercooler. Ive heard of people doing it without removing it but that has to be a huge pain in the ass. Its not hard to remove.

Does any one know the torque specs on the DP to turbo bolts?
Is there even room up there to get a big ass torque wrench lol? I haven't looked up in that general area yet but plan to tackle a TBE install within the next few months.
