Default How hard is a R180 rear end change?

Doesnt seem like it would be too har, unbolt the diff and the axles and swap it. Anything funky I am missing? Some unknow problem that would make it impossible to do in my driveway?

1) why would you do this?
2) dont you have to change All the gearing, meaning both the front and the rear? after all our cars are AWD.

but then again, i dont know.

I would think you could change the whole thing out as a unit instead of breaking it down and changing the ring and pinion. Just looking at it, it looks like a easy swap but I have never done it.

changing the entire diff housing as a full assembly is easy enough that anyone who can do a downpipe should be able to swap one in less than an hour.

Pulling the actual differential gears and ring & pinion is not so simple and should not be done unless you are confident in your abilities.

fyi, here's the why he needs a new rear diff. it looks like he would be changing the whole she-bang, but i'm not an expert on diffs.

Rear diff particles?
