All DPs should come with gaskets. A DP isn't hard to install yourself but make sure you use some pentrating oil on the nuts and bolts and make sure your engine has had proper time to cool. If you want to make the install super easy then buy an aftermarket heat shield or you'll have to modify the old one. Also one thing to think about is heat wrap or coating. I didn't heat wrap mine but it's a good option to prevent heat soak. Good luck...

Most downpipes come with gasket that meets the exhaust, but you will probably need to get the gasket that goes between the bellmouth and the turbo. Also when you do it, if you take the intercooler off it makes it much easier. Oh and a Breaker Bar FTW

You can go stage 2 with just the downpipe. Probably about 95% of the power gained from a TBE is gained from the downpipe. The midpipe and muffler (aka the catback) will only gain you a few horsepower at best. If you plan on staying at a "stage 2" level then you will be fine with just the DP. If you plan on going to a bigger turbo down the road then you'll need a full 3" TBE to realize the full gains.

the only pain in the ass of the downpipe install is removing those 3487348735 bolts holding the heatshield in place.

Are there any step by step write ups floating around? I'd prefer to do the DP install myself, but I want to see exactly what I'm getting into.

You getting into a sticky situation. Tideous, but not hard with some PB blaster and a nice breaker bar. That is if this is for the stock DP removal, which is tough because of that factory gorilla that tightens the living crap out of the nuts.

You can remove the intercooler, then proceed to remove the heatshield on the DP/Turbo. Once thats done all you got to do it the 5 nuts/bolts on the DP, and then two on the DP to catback portion. Its rather simple to understand, but can be a huge PITA.

Expect about 2-3 hours on a lift if its your first time.

^ what he said in additon to the bracket holding it with one bolt, which is located in front of the 02 sensor...can't forget that one too!

it's actually quite easy...the hardest part is not having the right tools...the bolts may be tight and usually are if it's been a while.
