pb blaster, a breaker bar, gloves (i use the mechanix ones. i've seen people not use gloves and have their hand slip off a wrench and end up getting stitches), patience. the bolts that connect the downpipe to the turbo are the hardest, and in particular there are 3 (or 2) that are hard to get to. i would suggest finding instructions online that show you where all the bolts are to make it easier.

MODS you might want to move this to the HOW/TO install section

Tips, make sure the car is cold and remove the intercooler. People say it is not necessary but it is way easier to work around if it is off. PB blaster the bolts of the heat shield, remove the heeat shield, once you remove it yo uwill see the turbo and the begining of the DP. PB blast the 5 bolts that surroung the turbo and the DP.

Get under the car and PB blaster the rest of the sections.

You will need a 14mm to get the bolts of the turbo, and a 17mm for the heat shield of the stock DP that bolts to the engine. The best way to get that one is with a long extension and a swivel at the end.

wratchet wrenches help a lot here, so if you do not have any its time to invest.

This should help you out

Actually, you might want to add an extra car to the list too, for the inevitable "parts run".

I got a new gasket for the turbo/DP joint, too. Make sure you have poly exhaust hangers, since presumably you're working with a larger exhaust than the stock one and there isn't a lot of room to work with. You might need to snip the heat shield above the muffler if it's a good-sized muffler.

For mine, it was easier to remove the cat-back exhaust and the DP separately, because I didn't have a lift to work with.

Last but not least, I'm a stickler for torquing bolts properly (learned that one the hard way over many years). A couple of the DP/turbo bolts are difficult to get at without removal of the intercooler.

everything evil said is great.

1. get the car to where you are going to be working on it and get it in the air the night before.
2. remove the intercooler and remove the heat shield
3. spray all the bolts with PB Blaster and let it sit over night. PB Blaster is your friend and it's cheap. Drown the bolts with it.
4. make sure you have all of the gaskets, new nuts and bolts, and tools you'll need.
5. also make sure you have a dremel/cutting tool if you're hacking up the stock heatshield or have a replacement one (Cusco, Cobb, etc) ready. i have the Cusco one and it's great.

Here's a pretty good guide w/ lots of pictures I looked at before I did my install: http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showthread.php?t=39284

Also a link to the write up I did for removing the intercooler: http://iwsti.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52452

I used 2 jacks, a jack stand, PB Blaster, lots of tools, my brother and a few beers........a bout 2 hours later my car sounded sweeeet!!! It's not hard to do, but the bolts on the DP are tough to get off, soak them over night like everyone says and it will be much easier.
