Default uppipe / turbo / header install

just curious..

I am going to be doing fujitsubo headers, UR uppipe with Tial44mm wastegate, Sz55, turbo setup.

My question is this..

Could i pretty much assemble the whole setup off the car besides the turbo, and mount it up together??

I wouldn't think so. After doing quite a few uppipes now its such a tight fit between the headers/uppipe and frame (or whatever that black piece is that the uppipe is sandwhiched on - between the headers and that black frame piece) that I'd think that would be impossible. You may be able to assemble some of it like the uppipe to the turbo and something like that, but it'd be near impossible to get all of it rigged up together and then install it all put together. Its all such a tight fit that it really requires each piece kinda going on one at a time and left loose so you can adjust each piece into place or at least thats what we've experienced with doing uppipes and header/uppipe combos. the downpipe on the other hand is a snap as it has tons of room. Hope this helps!!

When you say 'each piece individually, do you consider the header/uppipe to be one piece, or do they go in one by one as well. I heard one of the bolts on the GT-Spec header/uppipe joint can be a real ***** when its all up in the car.

The uppipe and headers would have to be installed seperately. After doing an uppipe install when I had my 03 WRX, it is not somwthing I would really want to do again knowing that the STi stock one is already catless. Of course some brands of headers come with their own uppipe so this can't always be avoided, so that is why I would purchase a set of headers that will work with the stock uppipe. Believe me it is a very tight fit between the uppipe and the frame, just like Robert said.

Yeah you really want some play in these as your installing, also to prevent leaks tighten the header first on the upipie side.

Is it easier to drop the subframe, or raise the engine for this install? Tool resources, and mechanical know-how are not an issue for me.
