Default SPT Intake Help

Hello

Going ot the dealer soon to see if they will price match Subaru genuine parts on an SPT intake and heatshield.

My question is, besides the obvious replacement of the intake box, what should I do with the plumbing the fender? Any additional tips for installation?

Thanks.

Do nothing else, leave in the silencer and reinstall the snorkle (after you install the heat sheild and Intake.

With this set-up my intake air was on average 10deg F cooler than with no snorkle. When moving more than 35mph my intake temps (at the filter) are 7 deg F hotter than the outside temp indicated on the dash.

Default Instructions??

Do the intake and heat shield come with install instructions?
I'm assuming so, just wondering before I pick it up from the dealer. If so I don't see any problems, and I'm far from a certified mechanic

I'd be REALLY surprised if it doesn't come with instructions. I wouldn't worry about that.

It does come with instructions, but they really arent that good, just use common judgement, really its not difficult at all, if you have a friend whos installed intakes, have him over maybe

yes, the instructions are good enough. not a complicated install. i only ran into one problem.........a few pieces of hardware were not included, the bushing, 2 bolts, and 1 nut were missing. so the dealer i got it from contacted the warehouse and they have to get a hardware kit from their supplier............another delay before i can install it

i've had the intake now for 3 weeks and i'm still without the hardware kit. i've called the dealer numerous times asking what they've heard from the warehouse, when they expect to get the hardware, etc.........nothing yet, can anybody think of an alternative route? i'm sure i could get the bolts and nut from any hardware store but what about a similar bushing.........any ideas?? i'm getting impatient

Mine shipped with the wrong bushing. (one of a number of kits that did.) I had to wait a couple weeks for SPT to recognize the problem and sort it out. Then they decided they would not ship just the hardware, they wanted to exchange the whole kit. Quite a waste for a 50¢ part but whatever.

My parts guy had to keep on them to get it taken care of. They are on backorder now, so you may be out of luck for awhile. The dealer is pretty much at the mercy of SOA/SPT, so there isn't a lot they can do. Just tell them to tell the warehouse or whoever that they want to exchange the whole kit and that you have been waiting a month for it. Shipping just the hardware doesn't fit into their system.

The two small bolts are no big deal, you can get them anywhere, and frankly I think the ones that come with it are too long anyway. The bushing is a little different, since it is a piece of rubber with studs sticking out either end. (and from what I recall it seemed to be two separate studs, not one going all the way through, but I could be wrong.) You could easily mount the bracket with a piece of threaded rod and a stack of rubber washers, but it wouldn't be quite the same thing. Probably close enough, depends if you want to hold out for the right parts on principle.

Basically the stud on the bushing is supposed to thread into the hole that that bolt came out of. See a problem there? The "correct" one has thicker studs.

Yes the dealer got it all sorted out finally. They are going to exchange the entire intake and since they are on backorder, a release from SOA/SPT has to be authorized to get it. So hopefully by next week I'll have it installed.........it's about f'n time
