Default Turbo Heat Shield

Question:

Is it necessary to remove the heat shield when installing a downpipe? I have the heat shield now, but don't have the downpipe yet.

If I can get away with installing it first, I'll do that tonight, otherwise I'll wait.

Anyone?

Yes, you must remove the heat shield to get to the downpipe so you can uninstall the stock one and install your new one.

Personally I would just wait and do it all at once. That's a lot of time and effort just to repeat it in a few days/weeks when you get your downpipe.

The DP bolts also hold on the heat shield bracket. I would also wait and do it all at once.

What heat shield did you get?

Haha yeah, the heatshield was a pita. I spent like 45 mins on one of those little bolts hiding way down deep because I didn't have a 10mm socket

Make sure you modify the original heat shield. It is pretty good and it will save you some $$.

Make sure you know where all the bolts are and how many of them there are, or else you will spend a decent amount of time screaming and cursing about why the DP or heat shield won't come off. There are a lot of hidden bolts and they are a PITA!

How many bolts are there total? I'll be changing my DP/heatshield in a week.

The DP has this many holding it on the turbo.

There is also 2 bolts holding on the stock DP to the body and 2 bolts connecting the DP to the midpipe. Like this.

Only one bolt/bracket holding the Cobb DP to the car.
