Question Maddad Clarity Ultra A-Pillar Gauges

ok, so i've tried searching and cannot seem to find any install help/how-to's for installing Maddad Clarity Ultra Gauges in the A-pillar. It seems like everybody is replacing their clock... but I love my clock and want/am installing A-Pillar ones.

So can anyone provide any help as to which wires to tap (b/c I'm not a big fan of going into the fuse box and doing it that way)?

I can't see it being too hard. I've performed countless a-pillar installs on cars. Its a pretty straight-forward process that is followed on all types of vehicles.

Usually the a-pillar is held in by 2-3 clips and a plastic guiding point. Pop them all as you pull outwards (towards you if you are in the driver seat, facing forward) and it should slide right out. Then replace it with your new pillar once you have your gauges mounted. Be sure to run the wires so they don't pinch when you reattach the new a-pillar.

Then just work on running the wires for power and your sensors.

Did you buy the daisy chain wiring kit with your gauges?

no, i didn't guy the daisy chain wiring kit from Daddy SC but i am planning on daisy chaining them myself.

The main issue i have is where the wires i need to tap into are located at (as in, the best place to find and tap into the necessary wires...).

I'm going forward w/ the install Sunday (just gonna do my best), so ANY help would be greatly appreciated before then!

Sorry I didn't see this earlier I would have posted.

This is a repost of a quick "how I installed" my Ultra gauges. They are in the clock in pod in my case but how I wired the could be applied to an apillar. The daisy chain won't be long enough to go gauge to gauge in an apillar so this method of using a terminal strip is even more ideal since all 3 gauge could have their wires run to the appropriate spot on the terminal strip.
===============
Serveral folks are wondering "where do I get an ON wire that does not loose connection when the vehicle is started" as reference in the Ultra manual. You can get that from the ignition fuse or any other spot that references the "IGN"ition. I'm not an install wizard so what I outline is for general reference. It's how I have my gauges installed but an installer I'm sure would be using better methods. Tapping the fusebox is definately not something real installers due so I offer this up fyi but recommend you enroll a friend who is a good electronic installer or get your gauges professionally installed to ensure long term reliability

Here is my picture story(Kudos to Draco-REX for his idea on using the wire terminal. This works well with the thin gauge wire from the wire harness)

My first step was to snake some wire from the clock pod down through the dash. I took 4 strands of 16 gauge wire(you might have 5, one extra for Ground, but I already had a ground wire run). Wrapping some tape at the start of the wire and pushing them through together is a time saver. Having an electricians snake can come in handy as well, although it was quite easy without it since the wire was quite stiff.

I used masking tape and labeled each end for what I would be using it for and for the matching colored wire it would ultimately be supporting.

Labing the ends that would be right under the clock pod.

Crimped some connectors on the ends and attached to a 6 pot terminal strip from Home Depot(about $6)

Wires from the daisy-chain cable attached to the oppside sides of the terminal. You might be running multiple cables. One from each gauge. It's OK to combine more than one. If you bought 3 gauges a single daisy-chain cable would have also been provided so you can have one wire that supports all 3 gauges in the pod. The yellow wire on the terminal is going straight to the battery negative terminal to ensure we have a very good ground. Lots of issues are due to poor grounding. If yoru unsure just run your wire to the battery(-) terminal. Applied a velcro strip to secure it but be able to remove it later if need be

All wires except for grounding were run to the fusebox. Note: my car is a 2002 WRX so your fuses are most likey different from this layout. Look to the back side of your coin/ash try for a legand on which fuse is which, but look for the ones I note here. Again, there are probably some better ways to pull appropriate power for each wire, but in a pinch this will work

ok, so i got power and everything to the gauges, now i just need to hook up the sending units and such. I only have one issue regarding the boost gauge:
the metal T fitting that came w/ the gauge seems too small for the vac line coming off the bypass value. is there a better line to hook into w/ me needing to buy another T fitting?

The supplied T will fit fine at the intake manifold. If you T it there I'd recommend getting another short section of pressure line from a local shop that way you won't have to cut the line that is there should you decide you want to move it somewhere else later. I just find that sometimes the intake manfold spot can pusle a bit(giving some jittery movement). PM an invoice # and I can snail mail you a T that will fit the BOV.

if you have the fuel pressure gauges i'll be ordering those along with your semi-wideband as soon as they become available! Great job Rich

On another note Rich, the T connector you sent me isnt quite a 1/4 inch, i had to use a micro hose clamp to get it to work without leaks in the BPV line. Just a heads up.

Glad you got things together

That was the last of the Ts I had on hand, the ones I have coming later in the month I specifically asked to be 1/4". They are coming in with the Fuel Pressure gauges.
