Default Raise the RedLine Limit

Any information on this would be great. I used to have an Rx8 that redlined at 10,000 rpms. Im used to a little more rpms than the 7,000 on my 2007 Sti, it gets there so quick. Anyway to raise this limit or remove the limiter? Thanks guys. Im new to this site.

unless you're planning to build your engine, and run a big turbo, there is no good reason to raise it. it will not make you faster. learn to shift early

have fun with your new sti!

Just take it to a tuner, have them remove the redline and rev away. You seem to have absolutely no clue about how engines work so I will let you in on a secret: rev limiters are extremely important.

To second that, I've heard of tachometers being referred to as "Rebuild Indicators". In other words, typically, the more time you spend in the red zone, the sooner you'll be rebuilding the engine.

If you run the stock engine at significantly higher RPMs than stock, you'll blow it up in short order. The internals will come apart from the stress, fuel requirements will exceed the duty cycle of the injectors and fuel pump and the engine will run lean. Detonation will occur and you'll end up with holes in your pistons or your block. Operating temperatures could also exceed the capacity of the cooling system in which case you'll have head gasket failure and warp the heads. (Or at least these are the possible consequences that I can imagine.)

Seems like a big price to pay in order to hold onto a gear a little longer.

By the way, welcome to the site.

Gary

id move on to a bike or back to rotary if you want something high revving. Revs do not equal speed but its part of the equation.

Ha ha...im pretty knowledged. Just figured i'd give it an attempt with the stupid approach see what i get. I am planning on building although i found a purchase of a rebuild bored/sleeved block for less the cost, might just purchase and keep the stock aside. Didnt want the expense of tuning before I built, just wanted a quick jump on raising the limit a little, seemed short to me, although it gets up there quite fast. Not soo much as to blow. I guess ill raise it when I build. Im sure the stock block can take 7500 without blowing, if not harrassed. But, ill leave it till it gets built, which i know is smarter just wanted to see what i got.

Damn you guys are quick. I waited days for responses on Rx8Club.com, LOL

I have a bike. And the rotary was very fun while it lasted. Gunna work on the Sti now.

Thanks guys,...keep the advise coming, loving it.

Set the shift light at 6500 so you end up shifting right at 7000. But when I went Stage 2 my car went to 7500.

Regardless of how nice a high limit would be to your ears, it is not necessary with the stock turbo. It just runs out of breath op there.

On my "stage 2" setup, I shift around 5500-5700rpm because that is the best place to shift based on the power output of my engine. An extra 2000 rpm would only slow me down.
