Default Rear Wheel Bearing Install

I have a bad wheel bearing in my passenger side rear hub...

What parts are required to change it out?

Is it something that I can do in my driveway with basic hand tools, or should I take it to a shop to get it done?

What should I expect to pay if I take it to a shop?

Thanks in advance.

Whatda know!!!

I was about to post up " Does anyone want steps to do a rear wheel bearing" , since there already is a front wheel bearing writeup

If I get parts this week, I will probably do it this weekend or next.

If there is some interest, I will take pics of the removal and installation while wrenching.

You could do it all in your driveway, but you would need access to a press, buy the Subaru tools, or make your own tools to press the bearing in/out.

If its under warranty try that first. save yourself some $$. But otherwise its like around 300$ a corner I think?

You've definitely got my interest...

I'll talk to my service guy at the dealership first, though... We'll see how that goes.

Ditto, If you can get it for free from warranty, do it man. I wish I could But its hard to blame a REAR wheel bearing on a car with 5000 miles dirt roads for the loooooose!

I've got about 33k, so we'll see.

I'm going to the dealership tomorrow... I hope my service manager likes me.

I'm thinking parts + about 2 hours of labor, so somewhere around $300.

It takes me about 3 hours to do them if I pull the hub off the car. The hand brake is a pain in the a$$ to reassemble. Other than that it's pretty easy to do if you have a press.

If it's not too much trouble, you might as well do one. I haven't seen one for the STI on either NASIOC, or this site...

Well, I decided to snap pics during the install ( if I don't forget my camera again..) Although it wont be as much help now, it could help some people in the future

Took me 3 hours today to do the rear wheel bearing today. (would have been 2 if I didn't take apart the e-brake assembly to hastefully) Every thing was pretty much easy. Had access to a press and my friend snapped some pics. I will do a write up (with our limited pics) on Monday!
