I once saw a guy remove his by backing into something. I'm pretty sure it was accidental and wouldn't recommend trying it. Sorry this isn't any help but thought I'd share.

I'm sorry. I just couldn't resist.

I have not removed an STI bumper but on other cars that I have done it to you just need a socket set and wrenches. If you can get your hands on a service manual, there should be exploded views of the car that will give you an idea of how and where to start.

remove the taillights. there's 3 poppets on each side under there. in the rear wheel well, there's 1 screw and a clip. there's three poppets on the underside of the bumper connected to the body. loosen the 4 nuts that hold the bumper beam on. These are inside the trunk, under the trim. disconnect the license plate light. lift up and the bumper should come off.

Remove the 5 nuts and clips that hold the rear lights in. Remove the all the clips and bolts that hold the bumper on. Just remove as many as you can find, and try removing it. If it doesnt budge, your missing one, find it, and try again. Thats What i did. I removed my rear bumper beam, took me about 45 minutes to remove it and re-install just the bumper.

Crewcheif and snorky pretty much nailed it. Start by removing the headlights and work your way around the around the bumper. IIRC theres a few bolts and a bunch of those pop rivits. It's not hard at all and could probably be done in under an hour.

Oh and If your removing rear bumper beam like I did. Get some zip ties, because thats how the bottom of your bumper is going to be held on by, lol. It uses the bumper beam for support on the bottom with out, I needed another sorce to hold it.
