Dyno Sheets:

Two dyno plots for you here. The first one shows the raw, uncorrected power in the different SI drive modes. Run file 005 is S#, 007 is S and 006 is I. The torque line of S# is in pink and very light, but you should be able to make it out.

The second plot is an attempt by the dyno software to correct for the tempterature difference between the last time I was tuned with just a DP and this time with the added intake. There was a 30* difference in temp between the two days, noted at the bottom. The later peak in torque is due to the temp difference. The higher HP figures are a result of the intake.

Modifications

Just a catless turbo XS downpipe with P and L midpipe adapter and P&L intake.

Information

Back for another tuning session at P&L Motorsports with Jorge. After seeing great things of their intake for the 08 we decided to give it a try and see what it could do on our car. Last time we dynoed the car with just a catless DP it put down about 270 WHP and 357 WTQ or so. The only mod to the car since the last time was the intake and 10000 miles or so of driving.

First off, the install of the intake is very straight forward. Remove the old and install the new. The new one looks to be a 3" tube with filter and all hardware needed to install. There is a very nice silicone coupler for the intake to turbo inlet, a well designed attachment point on the intake that uses the factory airbox mount to hold it in place, and comes with a VERY large K&N filter. Fitment is perfect as expected and all the intakes are made in house by P&L's master fabricators.

On to the good stuff. I'll just come out and say it; the intake resulted in roughly 25whp after tuning. Again, this was with just an intake. Nothing else. After driving the car, it definitely pulls harder up top which is what I wanted and has a very nice intake tone. The intake is quiet during cruising which is very nice as it doesn't get annoying while driving on the highway, but has a nice growl and hiss at full throttle.

You can see on the plots that there are a three different ones indicating the different power levels with SI drive and its settings. There is obviously a huge difference between I and S as seen and a much smaller difference between S and S#. Jorge's ideas behind the SI drive functionality are to create a map for gas mileage (I), sport conditions in foul weather (S), and all out race conditions (S#). After driving the car 600 miles or so after tuning, I think he has done well. My gas mileage in I mode at 65-70mph on the highway increased from 22-27.5 mpg. At 80 it increase from 21-22.8 mpg. That to me is money straight in my pocket!!!!

Overall driveability has also increased in that the car much more smooth in all conditions with the new throttle mapping. I am definitely enjoying the car much more than before.

You will see in the second plot that the torque peak is much later than before. We feel this is due to the temp differences that day compared to the last. In reality while driving, the car doesn't have any more lag than it did before the tuning session and actually feels like it has more torque. High temps are a killer!!

As proof of concept on this mods, we also had another 08 sti there that day who is a friend of ours. He had the exact same mods as mine and made within 2 whp and 5 ftlbs of torque, thus these power levels are very real and repeatable.

Overall, I am loving the car as usual. It really has been great. The next mod we are planning on, and hopefully in a month or so, is a P&L 30R kit for the 08!! More to come!!

Tony

I bet you have a grin cemented on your face. Power and milage nothing like it. It would be nice to see what it would do in the uarter even tho im not a drag fan, but I like to look at the trap speed.

Those numbers are great. Tony I want to thank you again for recommending me to P@L . George is going to be tunning my 08 STi this Friday, so its going to be interesting to see what kind of numbers I put down. I am right in the middle of installing the Perrin SS FMIC on the car and then I have to get the header and upipe installed. So far here is the list of mods to my car.

Great numbers for just a TBE and intake! I look forward to trying to replicate them on my car!
