Modifications

Just a catless turbo XS downpipe with P and L midpipe adapter.

Information

This was round two of tuning with Jorge. The first round was very successful yielding much more power and torque with just a tune. This time we were really interested to see what the 08 would do with just the addition of a downpipe. We used a Turbo XS downpipe with catless PandL Motorsports adapter. This allows the downpipe to mate to the stock catback exhaust perfectly. More on this to come as they will be offering this product for sale.

Jorge decided to continue his focus on what the AVCS could do for torque production down low. It was truely stunning to see the outcome!! We increased boost to 18.5 peak and were able to hit 354 ftlbs of torque by 3200 rpm!! This is 500-700 rpm sooner than 07's on the same dyno and higher overall amount of torque. We crossed 300wtq by 2700 rpm. Needless to say, this thing pulls like a freight train.

We tapered boost to 15.5 at redline and were able to make a bit more power than on the stage 1 map.

Overall, this really goes to show what can be done with the exhaust avcs on the 08. We are hitting crazy torque numbers and much sooner than pretty much anyone else I have seen.

Tony

so is this partly due to the AVCS on the exhaust cams now?

I would be happy with those numbers on 92 pump. I would like to see what it hits in the quarter.

I'll hopefully be going in the next couple weeks. Last time I went i hit 13.1 @ 105 I think. Will be interesting to see what it will do now. 12's for sure I'm betting.

What octane did you use for this tune?

Tony's car is my proof of concept of what I can do with Exh. AVCS. I'm specifically concentrating on finding the limits of the technology early. Cam timing is a freebie when it comes to power. You don't have to artificially jack up cylinder pressure with ignition timing (with all the risks associated with it). This is strictly an exercise in maximizing volumetric efficiency across the entire power band.

My stage 2 04 STI made 322whp and 364tq on the same dyno last Friday.

I would like to see sombody hit the 11's with a stock turbo. I doubt it would happen without getting agessive with the mods, but it would get the attention and respect of others.

Wow, that's impressive! I didn't know the AP allowed so much control over the engine. And after reading about AVCS (if I read correctly, it's infinitely variable cam timing... nice! I thought it was more like Honda's standard VTEC), it's even more amazing the AP allows you to control that also. Does that mean once tuners are able to get a good understanding for what works/doesn't work w/AVCS, we'll be seeing even more pwr gains across all stages? I wonder how this car would fare in all stock form but with similar AVCS changes?
