IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Figured I'd post in here and offer my condolences. That really sucks, especially since it sounds like the damage is pretty extensive. I totally feel you because I'm kind of in the same boat. Just bought a perfectly clean 05 black on gold STi with 25K miles, utec, a green, tial ewg and meth that made 380 on pump and 430 on meth last summer. I brought the car home on sunday and it didn't seem right on the drive home so I checked the plugs. Plugs looked OK so I decided to run a compression test while the plugs were out. Sure enough, cylinder #4 was about 80 psi lower than the other 3 cylinders. Ran a leakdown test and it's leaking into the crankcase. The previous owner is insisting it ran fine before I left with it. So I've been pricing out built short blocks and I will probably be going with Ron/Axis's street short block. I just can't believe I bought a heavily modified car to use as a daily driver and didn't run a compression test on it before handing over the check. I plan on starting a member journal soon. I even have a set of ohlins coilovers sitting here waiting to go on and now I gotta spend a crap ton of money to get a brand new (to me) car just to run right. |

Rodder, Sounds like a BS story from the previous owner to me. Call me cynical but it's a little fishy that he sold you the car the day it blew up. Don't worry though, sure you have to spend some loot but in the end you'll have a beast that you can beat like a step child and not have to worry too much about. |

Yeah, I feel a lot better about not selling it, ChrisSK has really saved this project. No ETA on the build, but its been about 4.5 weeks so far and the motor just got taken apart, so I don't have high hopes. Been riding my RC51 all week. It been in the 30s in the morning almost every day :/ but nice on the way home. On the bright side, I have had the car 3 years and put 70k miles on it. It will be paid off in march, and after this is will have a fresh motor. i wont have to worry about all the maintinence at 100k like water pump and timing belt. It will be like a brand new car, and I can feel good about keeping it 3 or 4 more years! | |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | thanks guys. my plans for now are just to get this thing back on the road with a new short block built by a trusted source. Then I can take my time and rebuild the bad block at my leisure and either sell it or keep it as a spare. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | so this is kind of on topic, don't want the n00b stepping on any toes here already... what are you guy's thoughts on Ron at Axis? I like asking as many people as possible. So far all my research points to them being one of the top choices for this kind of work. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | A little off topic, but I know the owner of that car, that car was barely driven after it got that setup, and NEVER beat on. It really just sat most of the time and driven everyonce and awhile. Don't really know what happened, but I can tell you for a fact that it was never flogged on. |
