  • sleeved STI block, all squared ready to go...... $1500-$2,000
Rotating assembly: $4,000-$6,000 * THAT IS REDICULIOUS, AT THAT PRICE IT WOULD BE A FINNISHED KIT WITH TURBO, PIPING,FMIC, AND LITTLE ODDS AND ENDS.
  • $3,000 cheap, unbalanced rotating assembly 2.6 L -2.7 L depending on bore - $6,000 HIGH end parts balanced.
  • You can't have a turbo kit + piping, + an intercooler for $6,000..... including a CHEAP rotating assembly???? Well, not making any good HP!?
Heads: $2-4,000+ *AT THAT PRICE YOU SHOULD GET CAMS WITH IT
  • $2,000 average heads with a good cores, $4,000 flowed + balanced, high HP high rev's
Oiling: $1,000 *MMM OK
Cams: $1,000+ *WEAK
  • $1500 realistic average number for off the shelf cams
Intake: $1,500 off the shelf, $2,500 exotic plus all fabbed up! *I500 ARE YOU KINDDING ME!
  • A custom intake will be in the $3,500-4,000 range when all done. A magnus is $1200, not flowed or port matched..... off the shelf.
Misc parts: $2-3,000 including all gaskets, studs, etc.... * KEEP RAPING YOUR CUSTOMER!
  • breather kit, BOV, new timing belt and tensioner, head studs and bolts, etc, etc: easy $2-3,000
Fuel items:$2,500+ * THATS LEGIT, THE ONLY THING SO FAR.
  • This is actually low. $4,000+ with fuel cell, lines injectors (8), HUGE pump, etc..... Again, CUSTOM set-up.

Clutch: $1,500-4,500 * YOU CHARGING MOR THAN A TILTAN C/F TRIPLE DISC. YOU NEED MORE THAN THAT?
  • $1500 low end clutch
Turbo: $4-6,000+ * SUCH BS !!!!!
  • $4500 average high end turbo, custom 2 inch headers fabbed up and coated up to $3500-4,000. Again, not off the shelf.
Ohhhh, .......... You classify your customers cars as "RACE CARS" so you can charge what ever prices you want. Thats great, where do I sign up.
Captian,

First off, I am not flaming you, or your ideas..... I don't understand why this is so negative.... from your point of view.....

I do not have a race shop..... I don't have customers, I am a customer. I don't know where that came from?

To have an 800-1000 WHP car, built to last, with all of the saftey equipment, plus supporting hardware, you can easily touch $100,000 in a build including the cost of the car.
  • See bullets above:
OR, you will be replacing transmissions,, axels, etc, etc.... on a regular basis.

Supporting parts:

As stated earlier:

Axles & 1/2 shafts($1,000+), suspension($3500 installed), wheels tires ($3000), cage ($2500+), big brakes ($2000), driveshaft ($700), hydra engine management($2000) Cobb AP2 for emmissions compliance ($500), HUGE i/c with piping CUSTOM I/C: ($1500+ more if you incorporate n2O to cool the I/C....), true 4 inch exhaust and custom 2 inch headers( $3-6000), tuning($1000), water and meth kit ($500), a REAL transmission AKA Dog Box ($12-15,000), gauges ($1000), race seats($1000), Harness ($250), misc parts ($2000), and additional instillation costs ($3-5000) = Ranges from $39,000 - $44,000++ in supporting parts, + engine costs of $30,000+ (complete engine; turbo, fuel system, plus cost of car $33,000

The costs differential between a 600 WHP car and one that is 1,000 WHP is astronomical! VERY few off the shelf parts go into a car like this!

When I am done with my car I will let you know what it cost me...... I know that my numbers are spot on.... and realistic.

Total man hours in my car for the current build will most likely be upwards of 200 hours. Expensive!

Mike

* First off, ...... If someone, anyone, who would want to spend there hard earned money on an engine build. Needs to get there head examined. J/K. As some one who knows how hard it is to do a HIGH HP build. I would have thought, that you would have tried a little harder, in helping him. Instead you tell him, "For $15,000 in the motor, I would bet you would spend double!? Just for the long block to be set in the car! Now get the rest of the components ( exhaust, i/c, suspension, tuning, ems, cage, brakes )and add another $40,000+ all tuned ready to go.....

='s a really expensive car! $100,000's easy"

Was he asking about ( exhaust, i/c, suspension, tuning, ems, cage, brakes ) = No. If you want to brag about your car, start a thread! He was talking about an engine build.....Oh what kind you say?.......Oh you don't know?,....... You should have asked, instead of giving him a laundry list of parts on your car.

WOW Jay!

My initial comments to Wayno, were not ment to piss in his Cherrio's! He made a statement that he was spending $15K for his motor, ready to go!

I replied that this cost could be near double..... NO HARM NO FOUL.

I have never listed the parts going into my build...... I gave ideas as to what all the supporting components would add to the cost of a completed car, period!

I won't brag or bash to fellow list members, I am just giving my 2 cent's.

Please put the 42 R on your car and make 1000 WHP! It should be interesting! I hope you can!

I am trying to be a positive list member, and share my thoughts, ideas, experiences, etc.... To hopefully save others some of the headaches I have gone through with my builds! That beig said, it is unrealistic to have an extremely high HP car without all the other costs, or you will risk breaking unessassary parts, or risk causing harm to yourself or fellow racers with an unsafe car.
