Default 2008 STI - 312whp/401wtq

Numbers
Dyno: Mustang
Tuner: Myself (Jeff Sponaugle)
Wheel HP: 312 92+Meth/Water
Wheel TQ: 401 92+Meth/Water

Year: 2008 STI
Engine Management: Cobb Accessport
Turbo: Stock
Intercooler: Stock
Meth Kit: Perrin PW1
Injectors: Stock
Intake/Inlet: Stock
Headers: Stock
Uppipe: Stock
Downpipe: Perrin
CBE: Custom, Magnaflow Dual

As most of you know from the previous posts, we have been playing around with the accessport on my 2008 STI. In late December we made it a stage 2 setup with the addition of a Perrin downpipe and a custom twin Magnaflow exhaust.

This weekend I added a Perrin PW-1 Water injection kit (Aquamist).

I am running a 50/50 mix of meth/water.

Before running the meth, I explored the AVCS intake and exhaust variables a bit. With a bit more boost, and a lot more overlap, I was able to eeek out 374 lb-ft of torque on pump 92 octane fuel.

I turned on the WI, using .6 nozzel (which is a small nozzel, so not a huge amount of meth/water). With a bit leaner AFRs, and a bit more timing I was able to get 401 lb-ft of torque and 312 whp.

Not bad for a stage 2 car with the stock VF48 turbo.

The 08 is growing on me.

Cheers,

Jeff Sponaugle

That is very impressive. Especially on a Mustang dyno.

I'm starting to like the '08's

M10 is what I use for my STi, M15 is what I plan on using with my SZ55. You def need to put a bigger nozzle in there, I believe the M7 or M6 is for a WRX. Very good work none the less, btw, what did the stock '08 STi put on that dyno?

I used a .6mm aquamist nozzel. I assume by M10/M15 you are referring to some other type/size of nozzel. The nozzel size is not specific to the type of car, but only related to the ratio of water+meth to fuel you are looking for.

The stock car is on the graph above, in blue.

I dig how fast is spools compaired to stock. I wonder what could be had with an ewg or helper spring.

Unless I'm staring straight at it, where is the water tank? And those are great numbers, can't wait to tune mine.

The pump is attached to the tank. That is the tank behind the Aquamist setup. I have a better pic I can post up.

very nice numbers. Amazing though how fast all that torque falls off.

Oh the ringland collapse had nothing to do with the above tune, as it happened before the Meth install. It was a small user error on my part. In particular I was recalibrating the MAP sensor in the UTEC (the map sensor in the new car is not the same as the old), and I fat fingered it.. Since I was using the UTEC boost control in PID mode, it did a great job of retargeting the boost to his the 20psi... Unfortunately that ended up being about 24psi. First and second gear didn't hit that high (not enough load and duty cycle), but one nice long 4th gear pull, followed by some flashes up top seemed to be it. It had a small puff at idle... ah the sign of the ringland. As posted on Nasioc in a few places, that is where I discovered that the pistons are indeed the same as the previous year.. and indeed as fragile if you do something stupid. It was cool to take apart the new 08 motor and see how the exhaust AVCS setup looked.

I should add however that any agressive tune with Meth has some inherent danger if the meth system fails. For that reason I used the Aquamist stuff with the flow sensor and boost cut option. If the system fails, the boost will be wastegate.

Cheers,

Jeff Sponaugle

Are the pistons in the 07-08 the same as the 04-06?
