Why do you want him to get the honda? I'm very curious what you like better about them. I'm quite partial to yamaha bikes, although I must admit that's mostly for looks. Any liter sport bike out there is fast enough to kill me, so performance isn't as much of an issue, especially right now. If ~150WHP isnt enough for me on a 380 lb vehicle, I'll be able to upgrade it after a few years I suppose. But any vehicle that can do 100mph in first gear (while still doing 0-60 in under 3 seconds) is fast IMO.
From a non-rider's perspective (mine) I just found that the RR seemed to fit me more. I'm the average 5'11", 200lb guy . . and the R1 just felt more "bulky" to me than the RR did. That, and he's already owned a Yamaha. . . so I figured the Honda would be a nice change.

I hear you on the power thing, though. . . . I don't think (if I ever ride) that I'd ever go with a liter bike. And if I did . . .it'd be something bigger, like the Honda Rune, or something of the road bike sort. Either way, if you're looking for guys locally to ride with, I've got some buddies who are very cool.

I've heard the RR's lack personality. I'm plenty big to ride a good sized bike, although the 2005 r1's are supposed to be slimmer than almost anything. I'm rougly 5'11" and a decently muscular 270, so I'd like a big bike. I'm not ballsy enough to get crazy though (at least not yet... lol), so I might never take the r1 to its potential.

I'm really up in the air right now, that's part of the reason I need to take some test rides to sort things out.

I'm also not sure about getting a new bike. R1's have only been fuel injected since 2003 or so, and I'd definately like a FI bike, so I won't save too much buying a used one anyway... Carbs are cool and easy when they're new, but when they get old they seem to be harder to start and less dependable than older FI vehicles (as is my experience with cars anyway).
