yeah i really really wanna get into road racing, but its a LONG ass drive to the nearest road course in colorado, and the auto-x events are more frequent and closer

Do what you can. But I promise you, road races for 5 sessions @ 20 minutes per session >>>>>>>>>>>>> AutoXing for 5 runs @ 2 minutes per run.

i know i know i just started looking into it a couple days ago... local SCCA region etc.... the auto-x are still a pretty long drive, but im just looking forward to taking what i can get at this point

FWIW: open track days are not "racing" as they are not timed and there is no winner.
