well at sammy's camera today the nikon area was HUGE but the cannon area was not so huge. Is this saying something? Maybe it just looked big cuz of all the yellow signs and stuff. dunno.........

I liked how intuitive the controls are on my Canon Rebel XT. I (tried) to use someone's Nikon over the weekend and it was a whole different ballgame...

That said, I'm sure it just takes some time to learn. I did like the bigger grip on his D100, it probably fatigues your hand less during extended shoots.

I have done many shoots with both, i have sat through hundreds of hours of critiques and edits looking at photos and canon consistently has better colors esp with red and sunsets and better background blur or bokeh.

nikon does a lot of promoting in the amature and student markets, they are always at my school promoting and donating stuff. They are a good company but canon still leads the digital slr world.

I used Canon's up until I got my D80.

Every photographer I talked to said the same thing. I figured at the very least I would have free tech support if I went with the Nikon and I was blown away. My Powershot still has a spot in my camera bag, but the D80 rocks.

I'm not a Nikon whore - I just use what works best. The XTi didn't impress me when I got to use one and it felt crappy in my hands. The D80 feels solid and I can reach all of the controls. Trust me I was in the SAME boat a month or two back and I've come to my conclusions.

...guess everyone's gotta find something they like and shoot with it.

It's a pretty futile discussion. Six of one, half dozen of the other. Both cameras essentially do the same thing, but you also have some limitations either way you go, but most will probably not even matter if this is someone's first DSLR. The all important tilt of personal preference, long-term use, lens compatibility, etc. should not be ignored, though.

I have also done many shoots with both bodies (used to shoot with a 300d) and after the necessary PP, no one could tell the difference. my point with this is many of us are biased by our own personal preferences and *gasp* brand loyalty, which is why I would prefer to see actual comparisons between both companies glass rather than stories "heard" or "experienced".

make your own thread if you want better responses but most of the differences are creature comforts and expandability.
