Default Any macro freaks here?

Macro is definitely one of my favorite forms of photography...just wondering if anyone else on IWSTI is in to it .

Here are a couple pics I took last week. These were pretty tough just because they were all hand-held in the dark with a Canon 100mm macro. Ususally I shoot macro with a tripod in the light . Anyway, it's a baby praying mantis (about half an inch long):

And here's a short series of an Araneae Agelenidae (Common house spider) that's about an inch long. Up close it looks like a taranchula or something!

That's a common house spider o_O. I've never seen those in my house before. Great pictures though .

Gross! Love macros...probably the most fun part of photography because every household object becomes a potential subject.

Nice pictures Ben. I ended up picking up a MACRO function lens as a means of practicing for shots like these. Looking forward to seeing the results. Really some fascinating details can be picked up with this technique.

These are great. Are you using a ringlight flash on these?

Thanks guys .

Oh and megapixel, I'm using a Canon Speedlight 580 EX with a manfrotto bracket. It basically positions the flash right on top or to the side of the tip of the lens (like a ring flash) but you have more flexability. The other bonus is when you're not shooting macro you can use the 580 EX as a regular flash (obviously) and bounce it off walls, ceilings, etc.
