Default Canon EF 75-300mm, good deal or no?

I was wondering of this was a good lense to have? I have the opprotunity to pick one up brand new for about $180. Is that a good price for the lense? Is it good quality?

That's the going rate for that lens. Honestly, the 75-300 is not known for it's image quality at all. It's inexpensive, yes, but it's that cheap for a reason. My opinion.....save your money and buy a quality telephoto such as a 70-300 IS or 70-200 F/4 L.

I guess I'll hold off then. I'm not looking for something too far out there, but would like it to be nicer than this damn 18-55 crapp lense my cam came with.

Ill show you some pics while using this lens from the Montreal Grand Prix last summer. I was in the grandstands...

Yes you can get better quality, but be prepared to pay for it.

For me, this was plenty.

Well they look good enough for me. Think I'll keep it in mind and take a look around at comparable lenses too. I'm in no hurry and the deal isn't going anywhere for now.

when you say slow do you mean the auto focus or the amount of time it takes to zoom in and out?

zoom is quick as hell, you just do it with your hand.

Its slow to get in focus.

However, this is what I heard. I still consider myself an amatuer, and don;t find anything wrong with this lens.

I even picked it up for $100 from a buddy...
