The STI still has better low end torque, but the Evo mid range is very strong. The low end on the IX is much improved over the VIII with the addition of the Mivec. I like the stock ride height and the daily ride of the IX over my 04 STI. The 05 and up STI's have pretty similar ride characteristics, but I still can't get over the 4X4 look of the Subarus. I don't feel like I have to put springs on the evo to make it look better. My Evo has no rattles yet (knock on wood). My STI had more rattles than I could count...LOL! The Gauge cluster of the STI is far superior to the Evo's gauges. The interior of both is very similar overall. The seats in the evo are nice, but I don't like the fact that the seats don't adjust up and down. The shifting of the STI is smoother than the Evos. The Evo shifter is notchy to say the least. The handling hands down belongs to the Evo. It has a quicker steering. What's interesting though is the STI has a better turning radius. Overall both cars are a blast to own. I really don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Nice comparison, especially from someone who has owned both.....I was about ready to pull the trigger myself on a IX

I drove an Evo 9 MR and it's definitly a great car, but nothing about it converted me, if you know what I mean..
I guess it just seemed a little too similar to my STi.
Yeah that was a informative write up. I also have noticed over on evolution.net how some EVO owners think their cars are far superior. It's funny because every comparison article I read both cars are always pretty much considered equal.

Nice looking Evo. As an owner of both I agree with your assessment. I also agree that the IX is far superior to the VIII. I was not impressed with the VIII at all.

Here is mine-

God I love how the EVO 9s look. Especially with that AMS intercooler on it. If I had gotten one it would have been in black. Again, if it was made by any other car company then Mitsubishi I would have bought one (well, Mitsu or VW). Regardless, Max, that is a nice looking EVO.

I actually purchased the intercooler used so when I bought it, the wrap was already on there. Plus the warp was actually sewn to fit around the pipes and not wrapped around them, so that was even better.

Nice Evo IX you have there. Looks like you are getting some pretty good numbers out of it as well.

Is it just the lighting in the pictures or does the SE have a deeper front lip than the MR?

The EVO is a mean looking car. Are people as eager to de-wing their EVO's on evom.net as they are here with their STi's?

The SE is a special package that includes the deeper lip spoiler. You can get the MR with the SE package as well. Some people de-wing them and some don't. It's a preference thing. The trunk / wing on the evo are a lot lighter than the STI trunk / wing.

Nice review. How would you compare the gas mileage?

They are actually rated the same gas mileage wise, but it seems as though the Evo gets worse. Of course it could be my imagination considering the Evo's tank is only 14 gallons. Either way I can tell they are very close. The Evo could certainly use a better highway cruising gear. The MR six speed is acutally rated worse by 1 MPG when compared to the 5 spd. Plus the MR six speed is weaker overall when it comes to handling more power. There have been a few MR owners that have switched to built five speeds because they have broken the six speeds one to many times.
