Ever been to the midwest? Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, they all have events like that, on lakes 50x bigger than the one the OP was driving on.

Actually no, never beento the midwest in the winter. I have been to almost all of CO though and never knew about that. Might have to make a trip up there next year.
