Default The Official Automotive Photography Tips Thread

I saw this on another forum and thought it would be a cool idea. If it's been done already and I'm not finding it, mods please delete If not, everyone who has some knowledge about automotive photography and/or post-production techniques, let's hear it! I'll start it off with this thread, which I found to be extremely helpful.

I was actually working on getting a little something like that put together but haven't had time nor the examples to show.

I'll definitely add to it when a question arises or I can get some info put together.

I don't know if any of you have been there but www.dieselstation.com is a great resource for automotive photography.

Use a tripod and very slow shutter speeds/high f-stops. Use a higher ISO if you have to, although with a long exposure 200 should work. You can also use photoshop to increase contrast and saturation to bring out highlights.

If you have a tripod set the ISO at a very low number and keep the shutter open a little longer. Having a high ISO at night will create more noise around lights and in the skies. Here is a pick of nyc i took on a tripod with a low iso and long shutter with windy conditions.

Yeah I just use a high ISO for low light situations where I don't have a tripod, like indoor car shows. Did you use ISO 100 or 200 for that photo?

Most of the pictures I have now aren't too great. Here are a couple I have in my library:

Wow for some reason when photobucket compressed the first one it came out really grainy. It looks a lot better in my iPhoto.

you'd also want a more normal aperture so you don't get the blow outs from street or other bright light sources (for those kind of night shots)
