Default Lenses for D.Rebel

Im looking to get some lenses for my D.Rebel XT

Currently Im just using hte Kit 18-55 lense. I need something that zooms a lot more, and a macro lense.

Also, I need an external flash.

Looking to spend around $1500 for all 3 items..

the EF28-135/3.5-5.6 USM IS lens is great. If you want to save money and get extremely good quality, the EF 50/1.4 prime (non zoom) is an amazing deal - it's almost as sharp as an L series lens, and is extremely cheap. I prefer using canon lenses, but if you want to save some money sigma makes some pretty decent products as well. personally I'd rather spend the extra money for canon, especially their IS lenses - I love em. For a flash the speedlite 430EX is the mid-priced one, and is great for the price. you can save some money and go for the 220EX but it's really only meant for automatic operation and the 430 is much much more flexible.

I'd suggest finding a good local camera store, as they'll probably have some used lenses and such that are in perfect condition and you can save quite a bit of money.

If its in good condition, yes. Some people love to take care of their equipment, thus keeping most of their stuff flawless. Buy from people like that if you want it used. My father used to buy used lenses all the time. It saves a lot of money as well as having something that's almost brand-new.

Yep - plus think of all the people out there who think they want to get into photography, buy a bunch of gear, and three years later realize that they never use it. Just make sure that what you're buying is in perfect condition - buy from a camera shop you trust and that takes returns, or make sure you test the lens yourself before you buy. Make sure that the zoom and focus operate smoothly with no grinding or hitches, and take a few photos as well. You'll easily be able to see any spots or scratches if you photograph a flat white card (or just take a picture of a cloudless sky if you don't have anything clean and flat white around).
