Default Panning shots... Post 'em

I don't have my exif viewer on this computer, so when I get home from work, I'll edit this post and put in the shutter speeds for each pic.

1) Blue bike was falling behind, so he didn't stay in focus. He actually had his wheel up about an inch and a half most of the way down the track.

2) Panning while car is turning. My focus point was the center of the door, so that stayed in focus while the rest was getting out of focus because of the turning, not the speed.

3) While it looks like this one is done ok, I can see that it could be a little sharper. The answer as to how... is to use a monopod with the shutter speed I was using. The shake is more up and down than side to side since I was tracking the car with the camera.

Here's a few of mine from the past couple of years. Camera and settings used posted above photo. Also, the shot of my STi taken by my son.

Many more samples available at www.pbase.com/cvbjr

All photos shot hand-held.

Thanks for the kind words, nan.

Shawn was 16 or just turned 17 when he shot that one. He started at 9 with a 35mm. He was our SCCA chapter's official photographer. He has his own Canon EOS 1D MkII and 70-200 2.8 L IS, plus other goodies. He's 18 now, a Freshman in college studying business so he can handle that side of photography. He's got a lot of natural talent behind the camera.
