im not one for AUTO anything but autofocus is definitely your friend. and don't hesitate to use Program mode. until you get the hang of your camera, manual isn't as easy to manage.

Most of those shots are blurred due to camera shake, not missed focus. FYI....as a general rule of thumb, you need to select a shutter speed of AT LEAST the reciprocal of the lens' focal length in order to aviod blurring the shot. Example....if shooting with a 50mm lens, the shutter speed needs to be faster than 1/50 of a second.

Try bracing yourself against something to hold the camera steadier with slower shutter speeds. Get yourself a good tripod too. A faster lens (wider maximum aperture) and optical stabilization also helps in these situations.
